I don't really mind them much, but I sometimes wonder why they're even there.

I'm talking about some of the stuff that the NeoGeo does, like that NeoGeo logo. Every other time, the thing shows up. Yes, I know it's a NeoGeo game already!!! You don't see Project Justice or Virtua NBA repeatedly showing me the Naomi logo, do you?!?

And then, when you put in a credit to start a game, a timer shows up. When it expires, the game starts. Um, what for? I can just simply press 'Start' to begin; I don't need no stinking timer. And why just Player 1? What if I wanted to play as Player 2 because Player 1's controls were broken? No, the NeoGeo's not gonna let me. "Press 1P Start", it tells me. But I wanna be Player 2!!!

Also, every single NeoGeo game has a 'How to Play' section built in somewhere, whether it be in the game's demo or at the beginning of the game. I'm not really complaining about it; I'm just wondering why it's a requirement. Only Strikers 1945 + had a 'How to Play' section; the rest didn't.

And finally, the difficulty level can be seen at the bottom. Actually, that's no big deal. I do would like to know how insanely impossible the game is before I start playing it. In recent NeoGeo games though, they seem to be doing away with the difficulty display. Oh well, no loss.

It's a kickass system, but I do wonder about these little trivial things sometimes. Or maybe I should just shut up and play.

Yeah, I guess I'll go play that KoF2K machine with the broken Player 1 joystick now. Joy...

Neo-Geo logo: More of an advertising function for the arcade... you know what it is, but im sure it was put there so if people see/like a game, they know what system it's on.

Start Timer: A game start compulsion option for arcade operators. Some ops don't want the game to be credited forever when you coin in. You pay, you play...can be turned off.

How to Play: Another arcade operator function. has an option to switch on/off for each game. Usually set to on for those who need the help. More user friendly that way.

Difficulty level: I'm pretty sure most, if not all games have the option to show it or not. Does it bother you that much? <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

The player1/2 problem: You can set an MVS to coin up separately for each side... might be controlled by bios region, but not sure. Not all MVS's are the same.

Yeah, but most arcade operators never bother to change them.

My guess is it's because they are lazy. If I'm playing games in MVS mode, I usually turn all that jibba-jabba off so it doesn't clutter my screen.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a Neo arcade system that wasn't set for all default options, the only exception being blood in Samurai Shodown games during the MK controversy.
