I personally think Neo Geo takes the cake in terms of power, but SNES had so many more games, and good ones at that, but I figure if you'd make a ratio of good games to bad games on both systems, it'd be just about the same. What do you guys think. By the way, this is my first post here, hiyah everyone, I'm The Dave man, whenever, wherever, forever.

Yes, but SNES had one thing Neo doesn't... transparencies. If Neo only had transparencies it would be so cool.

I believe the Neo accomplishes the "transparent" look by applying the "checkered" effect where every other pixel is removed, correct? The SNES was able to produce actual transparent pixels.

Hmm, tough choice. The SNES is one of, if not perhaps THE greatest system of all time. So many titles, a large number of which can be classified as "all-time classics". You will never again find games like Final Fantasy 3 (US), Chrono Trigger, Mario Kart, Secret of Mana and Super Mario World. And who could forget the first time they Saw Street Fighter 2 on the SNES? Holy cow, talk about madness...

I prefer the Neo, as well as many other systems over the SNES (Saturn, Dreamcast), but you can't ignore the huge library of groundbreaking games that system provided. Final Fantasy 3 remains one of my favorite games of all time.

1. SNES
2. DC
3. Neo-Geo
4. NES
5. PS2

i dont understand how can a pixel be transparent? it is only one color. am i missing something? i see what ur talking about w/ the checkered thing tho.

Sure, a pixel can be transparent. Take a look at this pic of mine below. I applied transparent pixels in a pokadot pattern across the entire image. Notice how you can see through them, yet they still retain their color?

I don't like the fake transparencies that Neo tries to do with the dots. If you don't have an S-video mod, it looks just plain dumb (all the rainbows). I do enjoy the fake transparencies in Last blade (you know, how they make the image flash really fast such as the sword slashing). Yeah, it would still be better if it were real, but it's nice looking anyhow.

Neo Geo is still my all time favorite system, followed my Dreamcast and Snes.

no transparencies on neo,

what about the water on the italian stage of KOF95, haven't seen it i a while, but i do recal it being clear solid nonflashing water.

I remember when street Fighter 2 came out on SNES ,There was a line of actually 9 people at me house in front of me TV , just like the arcades !!! It was the sooo fun , We were yelling and screaming the whole night at the crazy matches . I swear every body at that time played Street Fighter 2 and all my freinds came over to play it the day it came out on SNES .

FeelGood, aren't your circles translucent; transparent is when you can see through it completely, like un tinted glass. And Playboycougar, WHERE'S THE GAMECUBE?

The SNES is a great console, but NOONE should compare these one with an AES!!!
It´s true, there a lot of games available on SNES, and games which contains brilliant gameplay, and amazing graphics and sounds too, but a Neo-Geo...is the grandmaster of @LL 2D-Consoles...WHAT DiD i SAY...iN MY CHOiCE, THERE´S NO SYSTEM LiKE THE AES...

Actually Dave Man, I think you have them backwards. Translucent can be described as being clear, transparent is just the ability to see through an object.

As for transparent water effects on the Neo, this is accomplished in a variety of ways. They can use the checked effect, where every other pixel is removed, the "flashing" effect where the image disappears every other frame revealing any object behind them or they can simply animate it in a way that gives the impression of "clear water". This is accomplished with the white rippled effect around the ankles or whatever, but if you look close enough you can see that body part isn't actually submerged in the water.

Personally I think that the Megadrive is the better than the Snes....the pad and build quality just doesn't feel as solid as the Megadrive IMHO.

But I have always been a Sega Fan ...
I have owned 2 Snes's and think they are excellent and very often get the urge to buy one whenever i see one...

It would sit nicely between my megadrive and Dreamcast...

Yeah, just da man!

I won't put it as drastically as Rade, but in a way he's right, the SNES is totally overrated.

Back to the topic, I think it's not valid to compare AES and SNES. They're both 16bit, but that's about it. The system specs of the two are radically different, and so are the games.

The sheer number of games IMO is no real advantage of the SNES, at least not if you're no casual gamer. Personally I don't need quantity, I want quality. And the Neo gives me just that.

i have alot of bother over this but i really do like the PSX sure i don't like what Sony have done to the console industry BUT there are some amazing Games there is no denying it!! and the psx is the only console i can compare to the snes for quantity and quality of games (yes oi know there are loads of shit ones) but with RPG's like FF7-9, Breath of fire 3-4, Tales of destiny 1-2, wild arms 1-2 and countless others and then there are shooters like raystorm/crisis, R types, Einhander!!, G darius and alot more and classics like MGS and Castlevania SOTN and resi evil. i don't see why people should hate the PSX when Companys like Konami, Capcom, psiko and even SNK are willin gto do games on it all i say is forget who makes the PSX and PS2 and look at the games!!!!!

SNES wins 10 times over.
Where else can you get the best RPG's ever made? Super punch out was addictive as hell. (still is to this day)
Secret of mana, chrono trigger, FF glory days. Endless good shit.
Breath of fire.....

Really, snes kills the neo in terms of all around variety.
When I think neo I think FIGHTERS. Hell if I deducted the fighters from my neo "collection", then I wouldnt have shit.

SNES wins, nothing else to say.
