Neo Geo 4 slot cabinet restore

I picked up my second MVS cabinet. This one is a tall 4 slot cabinet, sides were painted red and then black and peeling horribly, monitor really dim, no sound.

I was able to fit this thing in my Scion xB with the hatch shut.

I used Goof Off to stripped the paint. Found the original Neo Geo artwork and vinyl under the paint. Unfortunately, the Goof Off lifted the vinyl right off the wood with the paint.

I find it incredible that you were able to fit it in a Scion. Nice looking cab and looks to be on it's way to it's former glory.

I grabbed some Behr color samples from Home Depot to match the vinyl I stripped off. The color is somewhere between Grenadine and Licorice Stick. I ended up color matching the original vinyl. The color match code is in the pic below.

Hey Jeffpin paint color and job looks real good. What will you be doing to replace the monitor with? Will you be going with a new RGB arcade monitor or using a LCD/LED flat panel monitor with a video convertor to add scan-lines.

If you look at the first pic in thread there is a spare monitor on the passenger seat I picked up from the guy who had the cabinet. I already swapped it in and it looks great. I'm pretty sure the other monitor can be fixed, that will be my next project.

Rolled on with a foam roller at first, but it was leaving streaks in the semi-gloss. Switched to a nap roller and the finish came out a little better. I also sanded between all coats of primer and paint.

the most impressive thing about this is getting that cab into a scion... seriously though nice work on the cab im mad jelly i cant find one of these cabs in my area to save my life

Wow, solid color match. That red looks really good. When I built a MAME cabinet a year or two back, I used that exact Behr Grenadine. Do dim monitors just simply need to be replaced or can they be repaired? I see big reds on CL often that have extremely dim monitors.

They can be repaired with what is often referred to as a "cap kit".

A cap kit will have capacitors and other parts that need to be replaced on the PCB(s) that attaches to the monitor.

Stripping the paint and vinyl took a while. The work is over a week or two, just getting around to posting pics now.
