Well , I have an AES as well as a Sega Saturn. I have the ability to play japanese games on my saturn as well. Anyway should I get the KOF 95-97, RBFFS, and SS4 on Saturn for less money or should I save up for the homecarts? I think I could luck out on ebay for some of these titles. My main problem w/ the Neo is the controls. I have the old skool joystick and it's a bit hard for me for certain moves. Maybe I should talk to Arcade to get my Dreamcast controllers set up to work on my neo? I am used to the standard sega dc controller more than anything.

So how does the Saturn games actually compare. Theres a bit of loading time but besides that? How's the frame rate?

Truthfully, nothing beats the original AES or MVS cart. Instead of buying the homecarts, why do you not just buy the Phantom 1 converter and get all the games on MVS for cheap. Cheap!
A used phatom-1 can cost you around 250.

What do you think?

Well, I'd rather get a 4slot mvs If I was going to do that. I am a gamer first and I collect second. I really love the boxes and the manuals. Home carts do cost a lot of money but If I work a job now until Sept. when I go to college I can spend all my money on carts. I have no expenses. I live at home. Also I will probably get one homecart for the holidays from my Dad.

Sure I could get all the games on mvs but something will just bother me. I'll feel like something is missing. For my dreamcast games I recieved a couple of cdr copied games. They really bothered me, so I printed out the covers for them. It made me feel better. Maybe for I got mvs I would have to get those cases Big Bear has.

I hear you, I was thinking of going down the MVS route, but, I love collecting games, and the Art/Packaging that comes with them. I simply wont do it, despite them being considerably cheaper.
As for the pir8 DC Games, well I did it, for some time, now wish I didnt. I feel it was people like me, that finished off Sega. There profits were reliant on people like me. And, despite spending money to start with on beutiful originals, once Utopia had cracked the TOC, it was just to tempting. I will certainly not do it again, infact, I now own 19 Original PS2 games, which Im proud of. I could have chipped it, but I simply didnt want to.

I noticed alot of people here bitch about the emulation on the Neo. To be honest, whilst its bad, its not as bad, as ripping off the code, and playing it directly on the machine itself. Emulators, imitate to an extent, but never fully reproduce. Playing Roms, on the machine is and will kill the developers. Why, because why bother paying £40, when a £0.30 cdr does the job nicely, for a perfect playable copy.

Anyway, nuff of that, the Saturn has some great Neo Converts, but as rade mentions, I dont think you can compare....again, could you class it as emulation?

Yeah I stopped getting cdr for my Dreamcast. I bought the real King of Fighters 99 Evolution, Garou MOTW, Capcom vs. SNK2, Project Justice (All japanse)

My friend said I should buy the saturn ones for now and steal as many homecarts as possible from someone like NGF. His exact words were "Buy the saturn ones, take the Neo geo one!" I had to interpret that. I know I could take CHris and Dion in a fight but I'm really not into stealing.

For now I'll focus on Sega Saturn Capcom games, other good exclusive saturn games (like Guardian Heroes) and cheap Home carts like World Heroes 2, Fatal Fury 1 and Ninja combat.

Later when I get a job the money won't seem that bad to me. When I have my own apartment or house or what ever I will buy a 4 slot a cps2 and a naomi all in different cabs. I'll have an official video game room with all my other systems and posters and wall scolls covering every inch of wall space and colectible toys on shelves and and . . . . . . uh oh time for my pills later

The best Neo to Saturn conversion is Waku Waku 7, get it.

The Samurai games have some cut animations, and the sound is horrible, it sounds like someones putting a blanket over the speakers, the KOF games are like that as well.

Those ARE the SNK conversions tho, Sunsoft made Waku Waku 7, which is just about perfect except for a little slowdown.

hehehe, yeah I guess, Im in that same catagory. At home its like Arcade City. I say home, as Ive moved to Norway on Business for a couple of years from the UK (Put it this way, it was a nice package they offered me, and at 24, you dont turn em down.) My parents house is cluttered with my treasured items/there junk. From Arcades to Atari 2600's. I just cant get enough. Its been a life time obsession, since I learnt to program basic on a ZX81 when I was 5. Seriously, my uncle was a bit of a bod, and got me started well early.
After that, it was just a natural progession.
Since Ive been in Norway (About 10 months), my apartment, has slowly but surely became like home. Its like Funiture out, Consoles in.... Some people may think its Sad, like the little shit that used to live next door to me. Some 16 year old know it all. He would come round to hang out with my 15 yr bro, and basically rip the piss, that I was 24 and playing videogames. Well, the way I see it is, its new age entertainment, and he is the one thats got the problem for not excepting it. Yeah I understand my dad, wondering when Im gonna grow up, but hey, whats the rush?
I go out, get pissed, get laid, Fridays and Saturdays are designed for that, but when you work a 5 day week, going out getting wrecked everynight aint the best option, and come on, what is really worth the time on TV these days??? For me its games, and certainly the Neo.
I really wish SNK didnt have to die, the way they did. However Im sure the system and games will just grow stonger each and every day with the dedicated people like those hardcore players that post in this forum, and the beginers, and reborn-neo newbies like myself.
I think the future is still SNK.

Speaking of Sunsoft I got the Galaxy FIght Saturn game coming to me for $7.50 Not bad huh? I hear you Euphoria. I play a lot. My parents think it's childish so do my neighbors. A few guys in school think so too. Most people however respect my hobby in school. These CRIP kids even said to me "Oh shit Son! You're so lucky to have a Neo Geo! Thats the best shit. Fuck PS2. That thing is so hard to find!" It almost brought a tear to my eye.

I also get laid, chill w/ m boys, see movies and all that. I don't think vide games are for geeks at all. As it games more mainstream it gets more accepted (one good thing for us hardcore gamers)

MVS carts are my choice. ZERO loading time and it's THE arcade version. Barring that, get the Neo-CD one. The Neo-CD system has more RAM still than the Saturn with a 1M RAM cart.

The Saturn ports aren't bad- just not perfect in most cases. I really like the job done on KOF'95- this would have to be the best I've seen. KOF'96 has a few crucial flaws (minor sound glitches, and the edit team ending is even worse than the one in the arcade- because it makes the Saturn one CRASH!). KOF'97 really screams "Why didn't SNK use the 4 Meg cart?" with cut voices and missing animation.

Hey, Brooklynskin, you have the exact same idea that I do for a dedicated video room, I plan that when I get a house it'll be a room seperate from mine and it'll have its own doorway in the hall, along with a doorway in my room to get to it

Get KOF 95, great conversion.
Havent played the others too long so I cant comment on them.
If you're a gamer first, go MVS
If you also love to collect, go Homecart

I have most of the Saturn Fighters (except the Samurai Shodown games) and they do play almost perfectly on the Saturn. The KOF's are great, Real Bout and Real Bout Special are 99% perfect, and the music is from the CD version, so it kicks the crap out of the AES music. Only downside... is the loading (KOF 95 has almost none, but the rest do)

It's not bad, typical Saturn loading, but it does make playing KOF a pain since it has to load after each round. You don't really notice in in the Real Bouts.

Personally, I'm in the process of aquiring the MVS versions of all these games, but if MVS wasn't so cheap I don't think I'd bother paying the AES carts since the conversions are pretty close.

I do miss that cd music, though.

Oh, forgot to mention.

All the KOF's except for '96 are Japanese ONLY on the Saturn. That blows.

Is the phantom-1 converter the thing that was selling on eBay for some time? I believe the manufacturer took out a bunch of eBay sales, but also offered to sell me a new converter for about $400 straight-up. My hard drive crashed shortly thereafter and I lost the email.

Is the phantom-1 the only AES/MVS converter out there? Is it the best? Where can I get one?
