hey guys! i'm a new NEO convert,
and i'm working on building a collection.

so far, i have a complete japanese market
AES coming my way,
should be here today (12/14/09) in fact!!

dsc02606l.jpg

i prepared myself, by also buying a proper
stereo-capable A/V cable off the BAY.
it came last week:

NEOAESSTEREOA-VCABLE.jpg

now for the games;
these two are currently in my possession;

SNKSAMURAISPIRITSandMAGIGIANLORD11-.jpg

and a new-old-stock copy of NAM-1975 (NGH-001)
should be in my hands any day now.
my goal is to build a collection of first-gen releases,
mainly SENGOKU, NINJA COMBAT and THE SUPER SPY.
SAMURAI SPIRITS II is on my radar as well.
from there, who knows?

now, the first time i ever saw the NEO was in this ad here:

PANDEMONIUM1.jpg

and consequently, that was also the first time i had ever seen
what was to become the heart of my A/V system to this day,
the remarkable
PIONEER VSX-D1S A/V Stereo Receiver:

VIDEOGAMECARTRIDGECOMPARISON.jpg

besides that, the one major thing that
got me into the NEO GEO to begin with?

Nako-Chan♥

NakoandAkari.jpg

yes, i've liked her about as long as i've known about the NEO,
and as such, she is the sole reason why i own a copy
of SPIRITS/SHODOWN, and have an interest in
obtaining the sequels.

cute little Akari Ichijou♥ there, she is from "THE LAST BLADE"
and i fell in love with her when my 16 year old
little sister (which is a certified NEO- maniac)
got the PS2 game "NEO GEO BATTLE COLISEUM"

well, that is basically the gist of it.
this looks like it'll be a fun ride...

It was about 10 years ago to the day that I got my first Neo-Geo AES. I was just as excited as you are. It is going to be awesome...Enjoy it and welcome!

The system looks nice. Although one word of advice. Don't bother trying to collect Neo Geo games. I would just buy the games you like. If you try to collect you will end up pouring money into shitty games you won't play.

Awesome post!

I was just as excited as you are.

I don't think age really matters, everyone feels the same way when getting their first Neo Geo console.

2 great games to start with as well.

I remember those ads in the back of EGM and Gamepro. I must have sent in 50 of them and never won.

Enjoy it! I've had my AES for about a year, and I love it

As a side note, I love how the only two consoles to have a game in it is the Neo and Magician Lord, but the game on the tv is NOT magician lord, nor is it Super Mario World (if my eyes are good and that IS Super Mario World)

I always wanted to enter those contests but never did

Is there any possible way to prove that anyone actually ever won those contests?

Welcome to the scene.. And the final days of your wallet! Mwahaha.. Well, nice looking system boxed and all. Congrats and don't go crazy! ;)

A little standard advice:
You'll enjoy the system a lot more if you have it modded with s-video/component/stereo output. It varies from system to system but in general the standard video output of the AES is a bit naff unless you're using an RGB cable. :P

Haha this is so true. Once you get through the worthwhile cheaper releases, buying the good rare games is like an event itself. You save, you buy a 200+ cart, and you play the hell out of it till its time again to pick up another AES game

Its like a milestone. Hell..I have had my neo for a year and only have 5 games

You save, you buy a 200+ cart, you pray that its not a boot, you get scammed, you buy it again and finally on your 3rd try get a legit copy, and you play the hell out of it till its time again to pick up another AES game

fixed.

Congratulations and welcome to the scene. I jumped into the scene in '94 and even now, 15 years later, I consider my Neo Geo AES consoles (I have 3 currently) and 25 carts the cream of my gaming collection crop. I love my AES and have never regretted the insanity of gettting involved, even when new games were $300 each.

Oh, and there is only one game you should own and play, and here it is:

Some other great affordable titles (Japanese versions are at these prices and the lowest I have seen them go for):

Art of Fighting 1 and 2 $20 each
SamSho 2 $15-20
Fatal Fury 1 $30
Fatal Fury Special $20 (Buy this ASAP)
KOF 94 $40-50
KOF 95 $50-60
NAM-1975 $30 (A must get, US version is about the same price)
World Heroes 1, 2 and Jet go for $20-25 each (Some people like them, some don't)
Baseball Stars $20
Cyberlip $30

Some more expensive but definitely worth the prices:

KOF 96 $60-80
KOF 97 $75-85
KOF 98 $90 (Plenty of gameplay with this)
KOF 99 $90
Real Bout Special $90-$100 (You get your moneys worth out of this one)
Real Bout 2 $110-125
Last Blade 1 $100-115 (Can't imagine not owning this game)
Last Resort $90-100
Metal Slug 3 2nd release $180-200
Art of Fighting 3 $180-200

That is all I can think of right now. A good way to start is with a few from the top list and occasionally reward yourself with the second list. These are out of my personal, yet somewhat universal taste.

Holy shit AOF 3 fetches a good price. I still have my US version and I'll never sell it, but that's a pretty good amount for such an old AES game. Must be teh rare!

man, I remember entering those contests too in the backs of magazine.
I was so excited when I was kid.
I became more dissapointed as the set up didn't include a NEO,
but the thought of winning a gaming rig like they advertised was too much for me.
what a devilish way to take advantage of kids.

Welcome, oh and LOSOJ is actually pretty awsome!

You can buy Nam 75 brand new for like 20 bucks all day long. There's plenty of excellent cheap titles to be had like mentioned above.

In all honesty don't listen to all them fucks telling you to take it easy. Nothing beats the rush of getting what you want when you want it. Specially when it comes to Neo. Go nuts bud, pain the town in red!

Any suggestions as to the most reasonable and safe place to have this done? Are there any established members who offer this service?

Stay away from Neotropolis, just stay clear from him and his crazy specials.

Xian Xi is the best IMHO, I'm not sure he's taking commisions right now, he's a busy dude and whatever his price tag is consider it fair. XX is a very honest guy and is quite often overlooked as a regular but he's much more than that to the community.

Talk to Xian Xi like Grave said or JMKurtz, either one will do a professional mod on your system.
