Hey all

Is a MV1-F with a Video Ram Error worth fixing? I have one and i was thinking about fixing it, but i dont have the first clue on how to fix a PCB board. I was thinking on maybe just putting it up for trade or sell w/ a couple of games if i cant fix it.

Thanks

Hi Dimitri,

Depending on what it is it shouldn't be that hard to fix...

What's the error message on the screen? There's usually a code like $8000 listed. That tells which video RAM is bad.

Could be some flat 62256 SOIC surface mount chips or the soldered in Sony SRAM DIP package chips.

If it's the surface mount stuff I have a PACE MBT-250 station here with the surface mount attachments.

Here is the error:

Address Write Read
8000 AAAA AAAE

WHAT DO YOU THINK? The board looks like its seen its better days but.....it might just need a little love to get it back up and running.

You need to replace one or both of the CXK5814 SRAM ICs... These are the DIP packaged ones.

The best thing is to desolder both, put a sockets on the board and replace the bad SRAM ICs.

It's a common part to blow when a power surge occurs.

If you can't do it yourself you can send it to me and I can help ya with it for a nominal fee.
