I actually got my subscription for GP when they picked up the rest of NextGen's subscriber base.

I'm overall pretty happy with the info and reviews, and as much as I'm not huge fan of the game it's good to see a Neo game get recognition.

Peace

Well, judging by the quality (or lack thereof) of your post and your sig, I would say you are at about 2nd grade level. I'm surprised you can read well enough to understand Gamepro - that is if you can. Dan Elektro does something for the Neo Geo community and all you want to do is be an ass. I don't think you belong here.

Dan Elektro, thank you. I for one appreciate your efforts.

I got the lame PS2 magazine in place of Next Gen... man, I guess Gamepro would have been better... maybe they divided up the subscriptions.

Dan is a good man for doing that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you very much Mr. Elektro. You have no idea how much I appreciate this. I'd even go as far as to mail Gamepro my copy of MS4 if you guys need one to review. Hell, I'll even pay for return shipping! Thanks again!

P.S. My offer is serious, I'm not just blowing smoke up your ass! If Gamepro does need a copy to review I would gladly lend mine.

I think Shawn should give this a shot. At least try it with Gamepro.

Remember all those KoF2k1s, rendered less-than-saleable due to shipping damage?

Well there you go..
Try that for RotD and/or SNK Vs. Capcom..

Hmm...not sure when you last read it, but go ahead and browse a recent issue, and give me your thoughts after you've seen it. I am open to constructive criticism, but you gotta give me more to go on than just a cheap insult. When you're ready, just drop me an email at danelektro@gamepro.com and we'll talk.

I pitched a RotD review in a meeting today but I don't have lots of hope--we don't do a lot of arcade coverage (partly because there are not a lot of arcade games coming out--seems MVS carts are the only releases of major note, and we had trouble working with Apple on things like NitD and Zupapa) but this month we're hoping to get a review of Soul Calibur II, which would probably take up a full page on its own. Then again, we were late on our MS4 coveragetoo, so maybe RotD can run a little later and be okay. Better late than never, right? And it is worth noting that I get a few letters every month asking about SNK and Neo games, and they're not from hardcore players--they're from the so-called casual gamers who just know a good thing when they see it. :)

Triueminator has been helping me get in touch with the right folks so we can get loaner copies through the proper channels--but your MS4 offer is very kind. Hell, I wanna just buy it for my own cabinet, but I haven't been able to justify the expense just yet. I just moved so that took up a good chunk of cash.

I apologize to all you loyal Gamepro Readers out there.
The reviews they do are vague at best. They never get too deep into dicussing a game and the look hasn't changed much since it started.

I'll be the first to admit the old show they did with what's his face was cool.

I'll stick with IGN thank you very much.

by the way I did win an SSX Tricky Soundtrack from Game pro not toolong ago.
I would have rather won the final Dreamcast.

Thanks alot Dan! Awesome review! It's nice to know at least one mainstream video game magazine is trying to keep people informed of the greatness that is Neo-Geo. Hopefully, you'll be able to get that RotD review or preview in there sometime.

You should apologize to Dan instead for being an ass. This thread is about his coverage of MS4, not what you think about his magazine.

No, it's cool--I'm a target, that's fine. But I don't agree with some of his points, like that we don't go into much detail in our reviews (we go into more detail than most other print mags--see EGM's reviews compared to ours, for instance). To each their own, of course, but I try to get as much detail into my reviews as possible--without justification for my opinion, there's no point in me writing, you know?

There have been lots of little changes over the last few years and we're going to implement a few more in the next few issues, but again, I don't know what your most recent frame of reference is, so I can't really comment on that criticism. To a certain extent, GamePro does go by the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" rule, and we are pretty successful with our formula. Hell, Capcom's still doing 2D games where people fight each other, but nobody's asking them to make radical changes. :)

In case, if some of you haven't picked up a copy of this gaming magazine yet, this is a piece of the previews:-

Metal Slug 4

THERE ARE SIDE-SCROLLING shooters, and then there's Metal Slug! One of the most beloved and gorgeous action games of all time is rumbling into arcades for its fourth episode. Two new soldiers, Nadia and Trevor, will join classic heroes Marco and Fio as they take on General Morden's new terror organization, Amadeus. The game will feature six new Slug vehicles, including a walking machine, a mobile rocket launcher, a forklift, and a motorcycle with a sidecar. It's out now -- if your local arcade doesn't have it, ask for it!

Thank you Dan! This is a great preview.

Watch the November issue for a short article on Rage of the Dragons, similar to the MS4 blurb. Trieuminator has helped me get in contact with SNK Neo Geo USA, and I've requested loaner copies of games for more in-depth coverage in the future (namely hands-on previews and proper reviews). Here's hoping it works out.

November issue just went to the printer, won't be out for a few more weeks. THPS4 cover. October is Shinobi and I think that's out now.

Cool, Neo-Geo presented in a mainstream magazine, it'll gain some more popularity that way.

Nice work, Dan!

Gamepro is okay in my book. I was always more for Gamefan since it dealt more with the niche consoles back in the day (or so I felt anyway) but for a mainstream mag I always thought Gamepro was a good enough mag to warrant buying every month.

FWIW keep up the good job Dan. I'll e-mail you a criticism of mine about the mag instead of posting it here for the wolves to pick apart ;) .
