Looks great, I've added it to the 'to watch' pile. James Caan is always good.

Just finished watching Tyrannosaur. It is Paddy Considine's directorial debut. It's got that dark, English drama thing going for it and reminded me of This is England. The acting is superb!

I absolutely loved tyrannosaur and I think it's a pretty underrated movie. I've actually been meaning to rewatch it.

saw Alejandro Jodorowsky's Dance of Reality a week back and it's probably the strangest film I've seen in theaters (I was a 1 year old when he released his last film so I haven't seen any of his others on the big screen). basically a semi-autobiographical film about his childhood years in chile.

I don't know if I can actually rate this, since I haven't been able to sit through all of it even after 5 grueling sessions.

Argento's Dracula

This is maybe the most depressing movie I have ever tried to watch. I keep turning it off after a few minutes because it hurts too much to look at. Has anyone here seen it all the way through?

Now, I know that Argento's recent movies have run on the disappointing side, but this is a whole other level of suck. Everything about it is amateurish and hacky. The production value is about on par with a high school play, the CG effects are first gen PS2 at best, and the acting is below the level of casting couch porn. And the script. Sweet Buddha, the script.

Anyways, I give it an F along with zero stars out of five.

Just watched Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal. Strange movie, but I think I understand what the director was getting at. Recommended if you enjoy cerebral movies that don't spoon-feed you the plot.

Took me some time to find this thread again. saw a movie worth mentioning

The last days : On netflix its a Spanish film with subtitles . its a good movie that reminded me of blindness. So if you like those type of films give it a shot.

Man of Steel - It was decent, I think it was better than many people I know made it out to be. Maybe all this negativity set up hopes low which made it better than expected.

Sharknado 2 - It was pretty much what I expected. Entertaining watch.

That's a shame. I consider myself a big Argento fan, but more so, a big Giallo fan.

The last movie I saw of his was The Mother of Tears and I felt it was great, a little pretentious, but it finished the Three Mother's trilogy nicely. I need to watch "Giallo" as I'm sure it's something that I'll be able to get a kick out of, but Dracula 3D just seemed doomed since the beginning. Hopefully Rutger and Asia can hold my attention.

I watched Boyhood a few weeks ago. It's an amazing movie if you like long, character explorations without a strong narrative. The movie had a cool gimmick where they actually followed the actors around and filmed for a few weeks at a time over a period of 13 year, so the characters really grow up before your eyes. If you're a guy in your 20s, you can probably find something to relate to in the movie...

frozen - a disney film made for the 2010s crowd. very interesting, unlike any other disney film. the only real complaint i have with the film is some soundtrack which sounded somewhat african, despite the location being in norway. otherwise, pretty good. i can see myself circa-1998 getting a boner for the snow queen.

Finally got around to watching "Hesher". I saw previews for this way back when it came out, but forgot about it for years. Went looking for movies at a local video place and saw it, rented it, enjoyed it. The plot reminded me of that 80's movie "Down and Out In Beverely Hills", at face value. Basically, the story of a degenerate, homeless Metalhead coming into a broken family's home and fixing it up... sorta. Natalie Portman plays this nerdy cashier girl... only she's way too cute to be completely nerdy. Lots of anger(and a bit of melodrama) in this film... but it wasn't overdone. Anyways, I liked it. I recommend it to anybody who liked Ghost World.

Would have been way better with Portman nudity....

Dredd
-seen it multiple times and it's still awesome
Weird coincidence. I just rewatched it on netflix 2 days ago. I actually like it more each time I see it. For what they did with the budget they had, it's dang impressive.

If you're interested in seeing a monumentally more fucked up version of Hesher check out Takashi Miike's Visitor Q :glee:

i too greatly enjoyed FROZEN. surprisingly pleasing DISNEY film, for an Otaku Weeaboo Freak (tm)
thought Anna was pretty fly, -especially for a DISNEY princess character- and probably would have had a thing for her once upon a time.

indeed, the only thing in the movie i can honestly think of that i could've happily lived without was that damned infernal carrot-nosed snowman.
had no place whatsoever in such a film, but i'm just a grumpy old Otaku any, so...

anyhow, i look forward to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY on video, since i missed out on the theatrical run,
and i've heard plenty already on how much a religious experience it allegedly is from family members who did get to see it...

It pisses me off that it's considered a "failure", damn it everything about this movie is great especially as you said the budget they had. That action scene with the crooked Judges is film greatness

It was pretty much the Dredd film fans have been wanting since the late 70's, I loved that they were even able to work in the gallows humor the series is known for like the nonchalant mopping up of corpses etc. and it didn't shy away from depicting Dredd as the glorious fascist bastard he is, a sequel seems like a pipe dream at this point but at least 2000AD has been continuing the film universe in comic form

I'm glad 2000AD did that and brought the art book to the US as I own all those, I know for the second annual Dredd day it was #1 on Amazon UK again

So bad it's good?

This is a movie made for people like Merc, who aren't necessarily into thicky thicks.

It might be made for people like Taiso.

This is a movie that, when you think there's a plot hole, it gets fixed. It's crazy like that.

I have been drinking this evening, so this isn't a sober opinion.

The Equalizer - i came into this movie with absolute zero information or idea on the subject. i had not seen a commercial, not even a movie poster. i just went with my friend and was like OK, let's watch it.

it may not be a great movie. its message may be very simple and fuel the mislead on their hero complexes.

regardless. i did not fucking expect that. first ten or so minutes is just a normal, everyday guy with slight OCD. and then the shit hits the fan. so to surprise me in a movie at this point in my life is worth something.

also, goddamn, bill pullman got old as hell.

Guardians of the Galaxy - this finally came out in china like two weeks ago. it was good. a lot of humor was lost in translation, regardless of that though this is a Great Summer Kids Action Movie. i remember when i was a kid i thought men in black was the coolest shit ever. this kind of movie is something i would have obsessed about if i was 10. i will never like it as much as i would have if i was a kid, but that's ok. it was still pretty good. although i didn't like the avengers, i am very curious how the guardians and avengers will meet and team up in the movie where they eventually fight thanos.

I fucking hated Avengers. Dull, dull, boring waste of time with flat characters directed by a Joss Whedon who can't get out of his own way.

too bad this wasn't a sober opinion, I'm genuinely curious about Wolf Cop's quality, is it at least the level of say, Hobo With a Shotgun? Because I could live with that
