Modded PS2 playing PS1 games [HELP]

I need help with this. I can not get it to work for the life of me nor can I find a non-engrish manual online. I have the Magic 5 chip in the PS2 which I got from Michel Yagami and I just got Cotto 100% in the mail... it is a Jp PS1 game, but that should work I was told. I have tried all combos of holding reset and what not, but it just does not seem to work... WTF

Any help or a manual would be great.

-put the PS1 disc in
-stand by your PS2...so to see a red light
-press stand buy button and hold it till you see the blue light on eject button

this how usually modchips work

there are just 2 buttons on PS2

Reset? Ok, if that is the button that that does not work.

I have tried like a million combos of holding buttons and crap and what not...

try it anyway

this time hold reset button till you see PS2 screen on your TV
I mean that one with moving electrons
