Megs=Megabytes or Megabits?

There is quite some battle here in my room as we play the Neo Geo.... we want to hear it from the Neo players... Meg count stands for the amount of MEGABITS or MEGABYTES? thanks.

Yeah they sure are, but not compared to the size of PS2 games and stuff...

I have a related question: What was the first company and videogame to mark their box/label artwork with the Megabit count? In other words, what dirty ass company started the whole Meg count thing?

I remember Capcom was plunking down their "1 Megabit Memory" stamps on Megaman 1 way back in 1987. Was Capcom the first company to do this?

I had a Mountain King 2600 cart that bragged about it's memory size.

Megadrive (Genesis) carts use to have the meg count on them in the early days (in the UK at least). Plus Nintendo made a big deal about SF2 being 16 meg.

Just to answer the original post, if the cart size was megabytes then ROMs wouldn't be half the problem they are. Imagine having to find somewhere to host a 700mb MS3 ROM!

@ jefmcc: Do you remember if Mountain King actually showed the memory size on teh packaging itself? If so, that dates my theory of Megaman for NeS>
