Well, ive been chating with my dad a little bit, and from what I understand, a typical PC Board runs off of 5 volts. Ok, so i have my neo geo MVS board. It has 12 volt +, ground, and 5 volts +. now, from what i can comprehend, the board only needs 5 volts to be powered, while the 12 volts is simply suplementary to the lights, etc. My simple question is, If i wanted to power an MVS board w/o a 11o volt PSU, well, first, is that possible at all, and second, could I simply connect a, say, 5 volt radioshack adaptor to the 5 volt, and ground, (where would the last wire go to, which contact on the board?) and power a neo MVS from that?

I know this all sounds crazy, but Im really thinking of doing some big things. :buttrock:

Thanks for the help, i appreciate it.

I think the MVS will need the 12V for the sound, i.e. no sound if you only use +5V, unless you do some sort of modding in the board. I would just use a psu with both 5 and 12V.

12v is required for audio. You can see a 1 slot that's been consolized here:

This one is on eBay at this very moment if you want to save yourself a lot of work :)

As for where to hook up the power. You should take a look at the JAMMA pinout to see what pins on the edge connector are responsible for powering the system, etc. I believe there is a MVS pinout at www.hardmvs.com

Well, that all looks good and dandy, but im looking at something of my own calibur, something thats never been done in the neo world before. Im not an expert, but I have my sights on my next project. :smirk:

So, I need to power a Neo MVS board (with sound and video) and a PSOne screen. I want to power these three of of a small power adaptor, such as a sega genesis, or the like. Now, from what I understand, (my meager understanding of electricity) i am drawing 5v, and twelve volts from the NEO, and another 12 from the PSone Screen. Now, ive seen ben heckendorn do it (www.benheck.com) how can i power a screen, and a neo from the same power source, without a power supply unit (110v)

Is this all sounding too far fetched, or is this dream not tom far from reality. I look forward to all your hints and tips, im looking to start this project in January. (with the right monies! :) )

For the MVS,

You might be able to get away with either +5 or +12, not both.

What board are you using?

Well, id like to use an MVS 1-b or really any 1 slot horizontal board. I want to, yes, build a portable :buttrock: :buttrock: Id like to combine a neo MVS and a PSone screen into one unit, and eliminate the use of a large 110v power supply. Anyone have any ideas?

Someone built one of these a couple years back -- with the flip-up screen, etc. I think it was called the Neo LT.

You'll have to post some pics as you progress.
