Is component video the same as RGB??

I know that component video breaks the signal into brightness(black and white signal), red, and blue and isn't that what basically RGB does? Lets say if I were to get a Super Nova and asked for component cables instead of RGB wouldn't you get the same picure?? Just curious.

no. rgb is four seperate signals: red GREEN blue and the sync (usually -horz) where Component (note the capital, because thats the consumer term) has the b/w picture, red and blue, so it algebraically figuers out the green data(because green is so big to transmit. the actual noun componet, means seperate signals form together, which is some what Component (which is really colour difference) and rgb is component

Well, RGB as well as composite and S-Video can be considered component video, but they are not the same. If you go with composite the picture is greatly inferior to RGB. Check out www.gamesx.com for a RGB primer. It will explain composite, S-Video and RGB component video.
