I don't have much experience with home systems, but I've read about different revisions needing different power supplies, and I think some systems even having the wrong power supply listed on the bottom? Am I correct?

Does anyone have a guide for figuring these out?

Easiest way to tell is by opening it. It's the only sure fire way.

Will it say on the bottom of the mobo?

You just need to look by the power switch. If you see a big green 3 prong device then its a 5v mobo. If you dont see the green device and see a 5 pin device that says TO-220 them it's a non 5v system meaning it can you a 9v-13v power supply.

Wouldn't a TO220 only have three pins as well?

If it's a 9v-13v system, how many amps are needed? Can you recommend a replacement power supply for both models? I think the Neo Store may still carry one of them.

The actual device is an LM2576 regulator. It's just in a TO-220 package.

Okay, I have a black 3-pin voltage regulator labeled "B1135". I can't seem to find a datasheet for this. I imagine it's equivalent to the green 5V one you speak of, but I want to be sure I have the proper working power supply before I start troubleshooting this system I bought as broken. (this is different than the system with bad audio I posted in another thread)

I took these while I was in a hurry earlier today, let me know if you need better pictures or if I didn't get the right angle on something.

These are attached through the forums: right click -> 'view image' or 'save as' for the full size

I took a pic of the LM2576 so everyone knows what it looks like:
