All sticks have JLF sticks with 8 way gates.
Was it a pain in the ass to get a JLF in the DC stick?

Yes, it's possible to swap out the artwork. http://driph.com/words/2009/02/howto-add-new-art-to-your-madcatz-fightstick/

So is the Blue Bastard dead?
Here are a few walkthroughs I've done for a the EX2 sticks and the Madcatz fight stick for anyone interested in a weekend project.
Hori EX2 Buttons and Microswitch swaps
Hori EX2 Joystick upgrade
Madcatz Fight Stick upgrade with Seimitsu parts and case mod.
I still have two 4 slots if you need them for EVO this year.
Here are some more recent builds
Those look like x9 sticks. Is that guy still MIA? Last I heard he'd absconded with some people's money.
Ecksnine is back around after a long absence. He's posting on SRK at least. I see him on XBL too everyone once in a while. I would hit him up on SRK if he owes you a stick. Those look like x9 sticks. Is that guy still MIA? Last I heard he'd absconded with some people's money.

Oh, good. He doesn't owe me anything, I was just curious.
Well, you said he owes people money?
Correction: one 4-slot and one 3-slot, unless you got Todd's old board fixed, but I'll keep that in mind in case there's a problem.
I got rid of that old board before last year's EVO.

It requires some work, but it's not too difficult. You have to grind down the plastic base of the stick so it fits in the square mounting area that the stock stick was mounted in. You also need to drill new holes to mount the stick.
