Well, I don't know what I did to my back to make it feel this way, but I know how I did it. Deadlifts are a bitch... that's all I can say. I don't know if it's a spinal injury or a muscular one, but it hurts something terrible right now...

I was lifting the bar of the preacher bench last summer and I had a similar experience. I couldn't move right for a week. Luckily, I went away on its own, but it was a lesson to be a little more careful (I wasnt even lifting that much, it was all in bad form).

Back pain is a bitch. When you fuck up your back, you realize how bad life can be. Breathing can hurt, any movement can hurt, just doing normal day to day things can be a hassle.

My back doesn't hurt yet but with the work I do it probably won't be long (handyman/lawn maintenance etc) lots of things out there to help with the pain though now.

You got to be careful when you do lifts like that. Many times I see people in the gym who sacrifice form just to lift more weight and to "look" strong. I know I have been guilty of that before but all it takes is something like this to teach you a lesson. Me personally I stay away from lifting too heavy and always try to use good form, and dont forget to stretch. These are things you already know and I am sure this was just a freak once in a lifetime deals.

It was on a goddamn warm up set... it wasn't about lifting too much I'm afraid.

I feel you, my back abuse is starting to take it's toll. I'm starting to lift things the right way, and trying to sit straight as much as possible, damn I should off listen to my mom.:oh_no:

I'm in a different situation, but I know how bad these pains can be.

I've been training for a marathon in the fall, and I went a little overboard last month. I now have severe shin splints and can hardly walk. If I don't give it time to heal, I'll be stuck with some nasty stress fractures and my training will become non-existant.

Running has always been a love/hate relationship for me.

I don't weight lift often, but I always lift less than I feel capable of doing just to try to avoid injury by focusing on my form more than anything else. (it has worked well so far)

having dealt with back issues (serious ones too) I can tell you that your best move is to lay down on your back and let it try to repair itself. Whether it's muscular or spinal, resting until you see a doctor is your best course of action.

That sucks man.

I've had a few back pains myself in the past and they really are a bitch.

Worst thing about back pains is you almost feel paralyzed if they're severe enough. Almost any move and you're in some pain.

Like wasabi said, lay down on your back and relax is the best thing you can do right now.

Hope you get better dude, cheers.

The best thing you can do is go to a Chiropractor. Something most people don't know is Chiropractors are required to go through not only all the same training required of other doctors but must go through a couple extra years of specialized training.

They really do help and can work wonders if you visit them regulary. See who your family doctor recommends or ask friends. Best of luck man, back pain is nothing to mess around with.

Gotta agree with wasabi on this. Lay on your back and try and keep straight as possible, then whether it's better or not, check out a doctor. Hopefully it's only temp and you'll be fine.

Back pain can be so painful! Really sorry, here is my favorite cure....

Most back pain is caused by muscle strain so the best treatment is complete relaxation. This is a sure fire way to relax every muscle in your back, but you will need someone's help. Lay on your stomach or side, which ever is more comfortable. Then have your Spouse/friend run their fingertips over your entire back. They should move slowly and with slight pressure(just enough so they are not tickling you, it should not be like a massage). There should be no other sound in the room. Just lie there and concentrate on the movement of her fingers and breath slowly. Do this 2-3 times a day for 20 minutes each time. You will be amazed how relaxed and better you feel. Good luck.

lower back isn't always about heavy --it's about how you lifted. I also had a bad back experience (which must've been my 3rd ever) a few weeks ago. I picked up a relatively light (10-20lb) object off my coffee table, but didn't really think about form at all, and next thing you know I feel that pain in your back that's bad pain. Took a week to go away fully.

Lower backs are all about giving them plenty of time to rest. Sleeping wasn't fun, lifting from almost any angle was out.

Just take it easy for a week or two (do something that doesn't involve your lower back --hard, I know) and if it doesn't improve, consider seeing a physician (I know wasabi and I both mean MDs).

Just don't rush into any back surgery. Most of the time they mess it up. Quick fixes are almost always disasterous with that part of the body. Because my dad's an orthopedic specialist, I promised him to never do any deadlifts, squats or similar when I work out. I do lower back extensions, but that's about it. No need for massive strength here.

My problem, which may apply to many others here, is that my upper body is too muscular for my back to support right now. So I also do a lot of lower back extensions and I focus a lot on my core to compensate. This might not be the case with Spike because he seems far from bulky

My upper body's always been top-heavy, but other than clumsyness I'm usually okay as I have a large frame anyway. With my vision so awful without lenses, I am convinced I would've been like the guy in Terry Gilliam's The Adventures of Baron Munchausen who stood as the sultan's executioner: a big guy carrying a giant sword who's led around to chop things.

we have a terrible stereotype to deal with as Iranians: that of being men with big bellies and no arms. I've had to work hard to be an exception to that stereotype.

Fans of the NFC Central share the same problem.
