I have a 2nd generation Genesis that has a shitty Samsung KA2195D Video encoder..... I was wondering if anyone had any idea if it were possible to swap it with a Sony CXA1645, or CXA2075. If so, is it a "drop in", or do i have to do anthing extra to make it work?

Well, i would have poste it in "tech Support", but it isn't NEO-GEO Tech, so i figured it belonged in the "unrelated" category.

Figured wrong man, you can ask ANY tech question in the tech forum, looking around would have told you that.

But your right the KA2195D is a shitty clone of the 1645, they are almost pin for pin identical and the viability of using a cxa1645 depend on if certain pins are being used on each chip

Keep buying 2nd gen MDs until you get one with the sony decoder.

Best source for this chip is MDs anyway.

It turns out that the easiest encoder to replace the KA2195D with is the CXA1145.Which isn't as good as the CXA1645, but you can give extra sharpness to the picture by replacing the 75ohm resistor on the Composite output by a 33ohm resistor. This will brighten the image and increase the sharpness of the picture. Thanx
