Yeah, I know. I'm not that far off. A lot have ended on eBay for about $175.
This thread makes me sad, seriously. $170 for a goddamn component cable, this is nuts. I wish I've bought that $10 cable on ebay so I could have thrown it in the gamecube bundle you just bought from me.
I'd say check that kickstarter and play your Gamecube games on the Wii in the meantime.

I think this is just for Genesis and SNES. The gamecube one is weird because it has a built in DAC.

Yeah, I paid that price. That's what they go for now. It isn't 2 years ago. I'm fine with it. Building one is beyond me. I'm just super loaded and don't care what anything costs.

The component cable is by far the best way to play the Gamecube on a modern HDTV and its video output quality is reportedly better than the Wii. This is the reason most people that have one of these hold on to them, which is why prices have gone through the roof.
It will be interesting to see what comes out of the open source cable solution. Megalomaniac on gc-forever had previously created a board that you could install in a Gamecube that had the same chip as in the official cable and allowed you to use regular component cables with the GC. Unfortunately supply for that chip was very low so only a very limited # were made. It's awesome to see that there is a new solution being worked on.
