You know folks, it's taken me almost fourteen years, but I finally snagged one. This being of corse a boxed Japanese Neo Geo system. As of I think around midnight last night on Ebay, I finalized the transaction for one Japanese Boxed Neo Geo, and near mint to mint copies of Art of Fighting 2, Samurai Spirits 2, and World Heroes from a nice man named Eric in Japan. All for a cool $314.00 (that's including $89 for EMS). And I still have $16 left over, next paycheck I think I'll try for Metal Slug 3 and a memory card. ttfn

Great to hear! Welcome to the world of Neo Geo!

I myself only recently bought my first Neo Geo AES (US Gold System) last month. Similar to you, I've wanted one since I played the arcade MVS in 1990.

Which game will you buy first for your new system?

There's 2 great stages a man passes in his life. One, is losing his virginity. The other, opening his first Neo Geo homecart system. You will never forget them.

I'm serious. I'll never forget the day I got my first homecart system in the mail. I was all giddy like a school girl, and tried to run too fast upstairs and fell down. My chin smashed into the steps, but I didn't care, I played Fatal Fury Special with blood spewing out like 2 min later.

I did a wee stint down the Falklands and when i came back home i managed to save up a few pennies so i went to my local import store and bought a home system with Soccer Brawl and my Next game was Samurai Shodown (£185)

I couldnt believe it watching Mortal Kombat play on the Mega Drive and looking at SS play on my other tv - i will like this is the future (not right now - in the future)

If i were you i will snags some cheaper brilliant games first, like:

Samurai Shodown
Art of fighting
Fatal Fury 2
Fatal Fury Special
League Bowling
Soccer Brawl

You could get all of them for the price of a Slug 3 if you look in the right place

:)

I have picks of my friends humping my 2-slot, does that count as a first neo-experience? I never owned an AES so I don't know how it feels to open one :-(

The day I got my homecart system was so shitty; I was the most upset I'd been in years. I opened it up and wasn't too impressed. That day ruined all Neo AES excitement for me, but spoiling the initial experience. :( <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />

My brother works for a large chain of computer shops here in the UK so we were able to pick up a boxed US AES with Samurai 2, Baseball Stars 2 and KOF 2000 for £350!!!

I will cherish that day forever...

Wow thanks for the shared moments guys, I just got my Neo Geo in the mail yesterday along with Shin Samurai Spirits(Samurai Shodown 2), Art of Fighting 2, and World Heroes. It even came with a Japanese news paper for package stuffing. I first fired it up with Samsho2, and after getting the bluescreen of death a few times, it finally happend, I was actually playing Samurai Shodown 2 in my living room. I will note to acttually being surprised at the size of the carts though. My roommate said that it looks about the size of a Gideon Bible, so now when tell someone that I'm going to play a game, I use the phrase 'Curling up with a good book'. If all this wasn't cool enough, but later that day my roommate and I went a friends house to help fix his truck, and ended up wasting about 4 hours passing the controller back and forth on both AOF2, and Samsho2. So all in all yesterday was a really good day, and for my next experiment I think I'll take the Neo to work one day (Wal-Mart), and see how many people I can get to line up to play a system about 15 years older than a 'Sexbox', 'Gameboob', or a 'POS2'.

Hey man, congrats. You'll get a lot of people play your system, believe me. It's one of the best, if not THE best, 2D system in the world. Yet be careful: don't let people hand your gear too much or your carts will get spoiled and scared.

Anyway, have fun playing your new games!

Ahh yes... remembering when... like the sounds of a UH-1 Bell Huey taking us arm chair vets back into the Hell of Vietnam even though we were born years later...

The first time I got an AES was in the summer of '97 while working at Game World in San Antonio Texas (this being before EB bought up the stores from Aaron Fischer and made it a national chain) and since I had "employee discount" I used it to go buck wild on Saturn games, systems etc... so I figured might as well snagg this NEO system and the 18 games that had come in that day and not get paid for 2 and half months. Of course I tried the thing out at the store before I bought it... but I got home and it was like seeing it at Babbages for the first time when I was 12 in the summer of 1990... I had visions of NAM! So I stuck that game in first at home... called over some droogs and (Bling Bling Bling Bling: NEO start up) and... SUMMER 1975, A NEW NIGHTMARE AWAITS ME!

YES!

We all just stood around even though all in the room were highschool grads and in college and just waited for "DO I HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE HELL AGAIN!" and all started shouting as the man fired an M-60 at unknown sprite generated V.C. and to this day the giddyness has never gone away for that game or for any of the other NEO goodies!

Congratulations on your purchase!

I remember buying my Gold system many years ago, and slowling building up a collection of 16 games. Man, that was so awesome! Then I sold it all in 1994 because it was getting too expensive and I was getting married soon. :(

Ahh, well. I managed to get by, playing SNK conversions on my import Saturn, and then later on getting a Neo CD. Finally getting fed up with the load times, I recently purchased an MVS 1-slot and SuperNova.

I will always miss my AES system, though.

Is there anything really more gratifying in gaming than seeing your AES system and home carts displayed? Just looking at them is a pleasure in itself. Congratulations on your purchase!
