Does anyone know of any companies that sell electronic components, tools etc in the US?

I'm looking for something like Maplin that we have over here. I already know Radio Shack and MCM Electronics - anyone know any others?

Assuming you are looking for a place that will take small orders, you might want to look at Digi-Key (http://www.digikey.com), Mouser (http://www.mouser.com), and Jameco (http://www.jameco.com). AFAIK there's also no minimum order (at leas not in terms of quantity) at Allied (http://www.alliedelec.com), and I think Arrow (wait for it... http://www.arrow.com) will do small orders, but last time I checked they charge a ridiculous fixed shipping rate for small orders ($20 for first component and $7 for each additional, IIRC). For larger orders there are more places such as http://www.avnet.com

Hope this helps.

I just did some poking around at Arrow, and it looks like either I misread their shipping terms, or they've been changed to something less annoying. They do add an $11 "handling" fee to all orders (I don't remember that...), but that's not so bad if you're buying anything substantial, I guess.

Yep that's great, thanks.

Pleased to see that many will distribute free catalogues (also Radio Shack and MCM), which I have requested. Over here, hobbyists have to pay for catalogues (Maplin), or you have to be a business (Farnell, RS, CPC.....)
