In a few weeks, I'm making a trip to Japan. I'll be staying in Ueno, Tokyo for 5 days.

Any recommendations would be appreciated: Arcades, Game/PCB shops, Food, Culture etc.

Rule #1: Take pictures of everything.
Rule #2: Give a house warming gift (booze) everywhere you go.

And you'll have a great time! :D

Bring me back Perfume (the band)

I'll figure out how I'm gonna smooth it over with the wife in the meantime.

No longer the case, unfortunately.

@ Donger- hit up Rancor, see if he can show you around a bit. We already spoke about the rest. ;^)

*waits for thread about your next destination after JPN*

LOL Rog, you know I got your back . I'll make sure to grab you something "arcade related" ;) ;) ;) at least that's what I'll tell my wife.

Thanks again for the tips wataru - I sent a pm to Rancor earlier today

Lem - I've got plenty of great camera gear so I'm sure I'll get some good pics and videos

You a Luck guy man. I wish some day I can go to Japan. My brother in-law just came back from Japan last month and told me that a lot of the retro game stores are no longer there... (even at Akibara)... I am not sure if he is just saying this..

I’d tell you to go to Game Inn Ebisen (where the shmup gods play), but you aren’t worthy.

What hotel you're staying at? I stayed in Iriya which is right next to Ueno.
Don't bother with super potato in Akihabara. The store in Ikebukuro is slightly better.
There is a small store called Friends in Akihabara which does have a decent collection of retro games on the second and guidebooks and CD's on the third floor...

the entrance is next to that blue flag.

Midori Mart in jiyugaoka.

Book/Hard Offs + thrift shops in Chiba/Atami/etc.

Gotta hit the sticks a little bit, to catch the goods at reasonable prices...akiba is a shell of what it once was, price and selection wise.

Get to ochanomizu, and buy a rad guitar, camera, and LPs.

There used to be a sweet 50¥ game enter behind the Tokyu supermarket...not sure if it survived.

Get breakfast @ Tsukiji.

I'll text you those jinja & shrine pics when I get back from FL, around the 9th or so.
