Hiya,

Although new to server I would pay a small amount if it meant the continuation of the site.

to HELP pay... meaning that I am covering some of the funds myself.

the people donating are not "covering everything".... don't think that :)

but I am contributing as well.

total funds needed are around $90 right, and it will be that way per year.

I am picking up the $53 over that + $40 setup fee.... and all other domain fees associated with this site.

Anyone want to help out?

What hosting service are you using? I'm with ProHosters and it only cost me $59 for a year, no setup fee, unmetered bandwidth, and 500mb of space, and free domain registration.

there has to be a catch to that.

I am on hostway (same as neo-geo.com).

I have been scoping many services.... MANY... and none have as good as a reliability factor and have a good price like hostway.

the only better and more reliable place is network solutions... but they are horribly expensive.

I want to see what all your host provides..... and reliability factors...etc.

I would be interested in something like that.

with this plan.. you get 200 mb of space, 6 GB of traffic, free scripts, a variety of compatibilities such as PHP, perl... and more.

but drop me a pm on your stuff... and I'll check that out...... heck... if its better... just put the site there. I wouldn't have to contribute as much either lol :D

the only problem is that I already have:
www.potp.net
www.neogeopocketcolor.com
www.ngpcstore.com
with hostway and aaaq..... so I won't be moving those.

a new domain would have to be created.

but again... I cannot imagine for $59 that there is not a catch of some sort. I have not seen hosting that cheap without "exceptions"

PM for you man. Time for me to hit the bed. Also, if you want, I can host stuff for you. I don't use my site for hardly anything other than my dumb guitar stuff and hosting random videos/pics.

Damn, 500 MB, unlimited transfer for $59 per year?? Why is the UNIX one so much cheaper than the windows server option ($79/year and set-up fee)?

Probably because windows is harder to maintain because it has more problems than Unix or Linux servers do.

but oddly enough.. you can use a lot more with the windows servers :)

many many many many more options available.

here are a couple reasons:
1.) windows isn't cheap.. linux/unix are
2.) more campatibility with windows... means more available options.

anyway nesagwa... are you going to go for Songohon's hosting service?

I have no idea, I never wanted to be in charge of this whole thing!

Its really up to everyone else if you want my opinion on it.

But let's say I'm going to get a site and use my Mac to maintain it, using web tools for uploading, maintenance, etc. Shouldn't matter if it's UNIX or Windows Server, right? Since that is only server side.....

Dave, the differences you speak of are evident how? When using FrontPage?

well.... the differences are the content you can use/upload.

windows means you can use ASP.... if you are going to have a shopping cart.... it is important to be on a windows server.

IF you are going to use ASP in anyway.... you need to beon Windows.

A lot of linux plans will limit you to a certain # of files used on the server.... IE on my linux plan... I have 20,000.

With both.. you can normally use perl, cgi, and a few other features.

I like www.hostway.com because they give you a lot of features... IE you have webmail (can check it directly off the server... if you are out and about), up to 10 addresses with the base plan..... 200 megs of space.... and free scripts, etc.

It really just depends on what you are using your site for. If you are going to have a straight html site, then go for linux. You can do a lot with it..... and it is reliable.

as for Frontpage... it works great with both platforms.

Functionality is basically the same on both systems.... except I noticed with the windows... there are more options for windows media content...etc.

if you need more descriptive help.. don't be afraid to email: sales@egameaddiction.com

but that site that songohon was talking about.... its great if that will be your only site. IF you are planning for multiple domains pointing to your 1 site... or if you want the ease of use.... and want less headaches by having all your sites hosted on 1 place... hostway seemed to offer the better value... even though you get less space... the bandwidth was higher.

but for 1 single site... you cannot beat what plan was listed by Songohon. That is definitely a KILLLLLER deal!

How about forming a partnership?
I could pay for everything...Of course I will have to have some
involvement in this whole deal.

I'd rather not get too short in on this for the simple reason that I hate him.
