Someone over at the SHMUPS reddit mention there is an Amazon JP exclusive cover, and the the standard and special editions are both a better deal, depending on where you buy them. So I would check the prices at both places to see what's a better deal.

The M2 versions of games always have a lot of extra content and features, in addition to being the definitive versions of the ports.

If your cart has DOJBL, and you don't care about any of the extra features of the M2 release, then no.

You should be able to set up a JP account on your PS5 pretty easily

Yeah setting up a Japanese account is easy, there are a ton of guides on YT.

Plus then you can buy Japan only PSN games like Dangun Feveron etc.

Dangun got the physical treatment from LRG but only because Dangun had a US store release. This is why Mahou Daisakusen is unlikely to grace the bluray disc.

If you want to play on a portable, yes (Switch).

If you want to play on a console, also yes (PS4) as M2’s treatment is going to be much better than the old PS2 version.
