Hi all,
First post (with a problem sadly) - I’m having problems with Metal Slug on a 161 in 1 cart, on a MV-1A. It seems to crash semi-randomly on the first level maybe about 50% of the time. In contrast, Metal Slug X on the same cart seems fine, as do the other games I’ve tried.
I got the MV-1A board from an eBay seller last week (I had been expecting a MV-1B, but got an ok condition MV-1A defaced with “China Warning Sale” scored into the plastic and painted white, which makes it difficult to ignore!).
I’ve done the 5V only mod and stereo mod, and got RGB + sound hooked up via SCART to my old Panasonic CRT. Power is a 5V, 2.4A power supply.
Wasn’t sure what to do about controllers, since I didn’t want to buy anything until I knew everything worked, and didn’t want to butcher any of my existing controllers… In the end I decided to wire up a SNES controller to it via an arduino microcontroller which decodes the serial output of the SNES controller to the JAMMA connector. Seems to work well (I can post a schematic + code in another thread in case anybody else fancies trying this) and it leaves the SNES controller in original condition.
I also got the 161 in 1 cart (looks like v2) from eBay, and this seems to work ok (apart from the sound seeming a bit off at points in a few games) - all apart from Metal Slug.
Tried resetting the backup RAM - no difference.
Power supply - maybe not supplying enough current? But the other games are ok.
Broken cartridge - maybe theres a bad solder joint on one flash chip?
Oddly, I'm pretty sure that metal slug was working ok before I did the 5V and stereo mods, but maybe I just got lucky those times.
Anybody got any ideas?
Rob
