Best Samurai Shodown?

I'm loving the polls that have been popping up lately, but none of them have been Neo games, so I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's opinion on the Samurai Shodown series.

I, of course, will always be partial to Samurai Shodown 2. There are just too many good memories.

I think a poll like this has been done to death but yeah, most people will agree that Samurai Shodown 2 is the best one in the series.

Anyone thought of collecting all the neo-related polls, putting them in a subforum? There's bound to be one for each series somewhere, could even prevent new threads in that subforum, so folks just vote and chat in the existing threads.

Anyhow, I haven't played V Special Snowflake, but so far I like 2 and 3 the best. IV and V just feel wrong, and VI was OK. Still checking Sen out, but it seems like a different game that just happens to share the series name.

II of course is the best part, whichever way you look at it, so this will be more of a personal choice. I take III, because it has the most challenging AI, which always has an Achilles' heel for you to discover & exploit. A much better AoF2 memorization fighter this is. And its darkness is, too, insatiable.

My pick is 3. I like the artwork, music, and atmosphere in 3 more than 2.

I don't know anymore, But Samurai spirits 3 is a personal favorite.

I like III's darker atmosphere, although on a technical level II is better. Both II and III still get regular play from me, but III edges out II for my favourite.

I can't choose over II & III. I feel they're both the best in the series, I'd probably rank them as:

1. II/III
2. I
3. Vsp/V
4. IV
5. VI

Definitely not 3. They took out most of the characters and ruined the Haohmaru sprite forever.

Not that i like the SS series in general but from the 4 I've played 2 was my favorite like.

Has to be II. It was my favorite thing to play on 3DO until I got my MVS.

i picked ssv special because it's my personal favourite. but i would say ss2 is the best over all game in the franchise.

It's a tie between 2 and 4 for me.

Both with different playstyles, but both have my fav characters.

III has really good backgrounds and music, but it lacked my fav character Charlotte.

Your poll is lacking. And don't give me "Neo games only" - you included Sen and VI.
