OK, I went through a few seasons with the NY Monsters and the Tokyo Ninja's

Been playing it non-stop on my daughters PSPgo.

I've come up with a few things.

- The Tokyo Ninja's are the best team.

- "Mike" from the Ivory's is the best player in the game.

- The game HATES losing - say you scored 8 runs in an inning - no matter what, the CPU will hit back to back to back to back homers to get back at you.

- When playing the CPU - don't even try trick pitches unless you have to. Straight down the middle will get you the same results as pitching a curve/fastball.

- Sinkers only work certain times - if the CPU is doing its "catch up" phase - don't try to throw it, you will end up with a changeup right over the plate that WILL be taken deep.

- Its the best baseball game ever created.

I mostly play with the Monsters for the hitting. I've pretty much realized that pitching is a crap shoot and the main issue with this game. All of the pitchers get tired way too quickly, especially the relievers, and having four is not enough. You're pretty much forced to ride your starter for five innings despite him getting tired so that you can eat the majority of the innings away and hope you're still ahead at that point.

The other problem with the strategy is that under the default setting the hit power ups refresh too quickly. You have to change the length of time per credit to get it to a more reasonable level, otherwise you're both just tearing it open with powered up hitters.

The usual trick of fastball lined up in and away will fool same handed batters for the first three innings and result in a few quick strikeouts. For me pitches down the middle don't work at all since I've seen the CPU rip open games in the last few innings on those much faster than curves away. But yeah, the sinker is pretty much worthless unless it's a human opponent.

And while this is the best arcade game ever created, I think I'd have to give the best overall nod to the 1st Ken Griffey Jr Baseball game on the SNES. We're not counting the current gen ultra realistic games because if you're playing those you might as well go out to a real diamond or batting cage. But Ken Griffey just had a great control setup, fair gameplay, lots of good substitution options, and the feeling of just ripping it up with McGwire/Griffey/Bonds before all the shit went down.

Agreed. What is the AES equivalent? I assume it's X amount of powerups per game and that's it? I don't play against humans enough to have found a really sweet spot in terms of the MVS settings.

I've found the best pitching to be lining up a diagonal fastball so that it just crosses the corner of the plate. For right handed pitchers, start on the left side of the rubber a bit and throw a diagonal that barely crosses the right front corner of the plate (and vice-versa for lefty pitchers).

I've not been able to get deep into a season since I'm on MVS without a memory card, but it works even for tired out pitchers for the first few games of the season.

I dont care what you say, I have played through 2 full seasons and pitches count. I find that if you hold back your pitchers after developing a lead. And switching them out you can usually end the inning without them catching up. The key is to not sit on your lead and use your power up bats to extend your lead.

But I do agree that it is the best baseball game ever made.

This game was extremely fun as well. I have more fond memories of this over BBS2. BBS2 is still much more fun in 2 player though.

Is there anyway to disable the catch up?

Is there any point to playing games. Meaning is there an end, playoffs or whatever? I got it on the AES and I think I only played 3-4 in a row, but nothing new except for picking an upgrade player.

Also agree that it's my favorite baseball game of all time.

BTW did anybody who played Ken Griffey Jr. try to rename all the players. Actually did but the memory would reset after a while. Used to have all the players written down in a tablet had that floating around forever.
