I am only a few hours into it and so far it is great. Again I am not that far into it (at the third boss) and I am hoping the wise old men will make a cameo but I doubt it. Still, it is great fun breaking columns and destroying the environment.

The voice acting is pretty bad but oh well. Anyone else playing this game??

Haven't bought it yet, I didn't know it was out. Gotta' head out tomorrow to get it! Wise old man? Do you mean the Hermit guy that lived inside the giant trees on the NES version? That's the only old guy I remember, but then again I play the Arcade version far more than the NES version.

Man I'm gonna' be one poor ass dude this XMAS

XBOX
Splinter Cell
Macross: Battlecry
Airforce Delta Storm
Gun Valkyrie
Max Payne

PS2
Contra "SS"
Shinobi
and now RYGAR.

I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad?

yeah this game is fantastic. i'm near the end and i haven't seen the wiseman yet (but you never know) and i think this is definitely one of the better ps2 releases ever. all the problems that reviewers list aren't that bad. the voice acting is hokey and over-dramatic, but i sort of expected it to be. great game.

I heard the soundtrack and that was enough - I bought it right quick. Got a final tonight, but I should be able to put some time into it on Tuesday...

But man, this is what developers need to do with game music - it's time we outgrow poorly compozed synth music. It's nice to see more companies using skilled composers and real orchestras...

i agree, but with a bit of pause.
to me, the warm sound of the synth is almost healing. not only is it nostalgic in terms of games for me [SNES sound device especially]; but it can be quite beautiful.

metroid prime's music was all synth :)

It's a side scrolling game made by Tecmo. It was first released in the arcades then for the NES in the late 80's. Vey fun game. The game let you control a hero named Ryagr with your diskarmor (imagine a huge disc with spikes coming out of it, connected to a chain on your arm). They just released this ne version for PS2.

Man this game is quite awe inspiring. I love how they got the Mocow Orchestra to do the score. I love the music and it fits the game very well. And yes, Kid Aphex is right, once you get to Arcadia, you'll realize why you were born. It's a beautiful surrounding and it looks like it goes on for miles and miles all around you. A must pick up.

See, that's it. POORLY composed music sucks period. Most games that come out nowadays, simply because they use redbook or MP3's now, expect you to be bowled over just because of the quality sound, even if the composition sucks. Kid Aphex is right about Metroid...that game has an AMAZING soundtrack, and it is synth. Shit, I was just talking with someone about how cool the soundtrack for Shinobi for PS2 is...once again, synthesized. I find those old soundtracks VERY comforting. Much like the graphics, all the powerful tech in the world doesn't mean a hill of beans without an artistic flair.

That game looks nice. I haven't gotten to play it, though. One thing bothers me about it, however: The princess-type lady in that game looks disturbingly like Britney Spears.
