Do your ancestors/genes define you?
I can understand trying to find out about those that had a direct impact on you (so, mostly up to the grandparents) but beyond that, I don't see the appeal.
Personally I'd rather continue to study general history - says a lot more about how todays world/society came to be (and my place in it).

Some people base their entire lives around their ancestry. It's .... quite stupid.
