Can you snap a pic of the Neogeo screen? That's one of the most helpful. Also power on your AES with no cart and let me know what color the screen is.

With no cart:

1) the screen is all garbled with green and black colors, for a fraction of a second, too fast to capture with camera.

2)then it goes mostly white with green stripes for a moment (see pic).

3)After that the screen goes solid blue.

The startup Neo Geo logo screen shows missing horizontal lines (see pic).

Also included better pic of Magician Lord title screen.

I opened the unit up, cleaned the cart slot, made no difference.

I took pics of the board if you want I'll upload them too.

Other than the lines in the NEOGEO, the SNK part on the bottom is fine? Also, this is the only game that does it?

Tried Magician Lord and World Heroes 2, they both do it.

Here is a pic of the full Neo Geo logo screen on World Heroes 2:

There is a blocky/pixelated look in both both games. For example:

You can try checking I think CHA 19A(slot closest to joystick ports) and see if it has continuity to the LSPC2(134).

I also have some small graphics glitches on my AES, maybe the same or related to OP and I was wondering if anyone could assist with. Everything looks fine for the most part but I noticed today on sengoku the backgrounds would have a random vertical line of "glitch". I first noticed this last week on 3 count bout, the middle of the ring had a square patch of garbled pixels that were different color, really out of place. As OP mentioned, would a cleaning do any good and as he asked as well, whats the best way to do it? Or am I looking at other issues here?

I may have a similar problem. Here are 2 pictures I took of my newly acquired Neo Geo AES in action. One is with a cartridge inserted, one is not).Serial number 017702, NTSC model. Please view the pictures here: http://tinypic.com/a/2n21iw/1
If anyone can advise on what could be the problem, I'd appreciate it.

Can you snap some pics? I can't tell if it's dot crawl or a bad connection from your description.

It could be a pallette ram error. You need to open it up and check for corrosion.

I'll do that. I've read on these forums that, with no cartridge in the system, I'll get a flashing screen of a specific color depending on the error. But all I get is the above checkerboard screen, with or without a cartridge. No sound at all either. Just complete silence with or without a game inserted. I must say though, that when I received this console in the mail, it was packed very poorly. So poorly in fact that one of the controllers suffered pretty significant damage (see picture below). There was nothing to protect the console from the 2 huge joysticks bouncing around on top of it during transit. http://i65.tinypic.com/3136iae.jpg

What power supply are you using?

Here's some pictures showing my issues. (Sorry for the bad pic quality I was having a hard time getting a good pic off the CRT). Random lines or little glitches come and go, only at certian points or spots in the game. Only certain games seem to do it.

What power supply are you using?

I don't have an official power supply yet, but will have the official SNK Pro Pow 5V 3A either this Friday or Saturday. In the meantime I've tried with the following (all negative tip):

5V 2A
6V 1A
7.5V 1A
5V rail on my computer (20-30A)

There was no change at all using any of the above except the 7.5 which caused a buzzing sound through the television. I've tested on a old crt tube television (Samsung GXTV Gaming Television) via the yellow and white official cable (that I've used with my Neo CD) and also on an LCD tv via scart to hdmi with the same results.
