A friend of mine has just received a 4-slot with 2 games and it always boots to the hardware test mode in his cab (with all DIP off). He says he has tried everything, including the work ram test (all DIP on).

Any idea of what could cause this and possible solution? I haven't seen it yet, I might try to lend him some other carts and a unibios.

When he powers it up it's going to right to the Cross Hatch screen correct..?

Then you can mess around within that screen/hardware test..

I have a 4 slot board that goes right to Cross Hatch screen but won't read a cart no matter what I do..I've yet to figure what's wrong with it....

My conclusion is it's a connection issue between the top and bottom board.

Ok Ok Ok...

Please not the different between hardware and service mode.... A test mode is the menu with letters while crosshatch is teh hardware test......

If your getting a Hardware test (crosshatch):
Sounds like a pins issue.... There might be bad contact between the upper board and the lower board...... YOu can remove teh whole top board and still get a crosshatch and test....

From what he told me, it goes to the hardware test (the same you get with DIP 1)and he can cycle through all its parts (RGB, input, calendar, color, etc) but he can't exit it.
