1 slot board battery starting to leak

I have a MVS 1 slot board and I noticed that the battery on it is starting to leak, can the board function without it? The battery just saves the soft dip settings right? I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing it can I just clip it off and use it without a battery?

Should I even bother replacing it? I play so many games on it it can't hold all the soft dip settings anyhow and it only takes a couple seconds to change the soft dips each time I play with the Unibios, and Hi scores I can just write them down like I always do.

Based on that, then no, I wouldn't worry about replacing the battery. The option to do so will be there if you change your mind in the future.
