For library, audio, and graphics, I'd have to say SNES / SFC. My personal favorite is Genesis though. It was closer to the arcade experience and seeing the speed of Sonic after only having Mario for years blew my mind.

I'd say for accessibility and quality of games it would be a toss up between SNES or Genesis.

For pure awesomeness, AES.

Initially, the SNES. Later on, the AES.

Call it a hunch, but you're probably going to get a biased opinion towards the AES on this site. :P

although i like the megadrive/genesis more, the best console of that era has to be the snes. a revolutionary console that excelled in all genres.

Most of my favorite games are on SNES, but I also love the Genesis and Neo Geo. The TG16 has some fun games but I haven't spent nearly as much time with it.

If we include add-ons

1. Genesis w/CD+32X
2. Super Nintendo w/Super Game Boy 2
3. Turbografx-16/PC Engine w/CD
4. Neo Geo
5. CD-i

If we don't include add-ons
1. Super Nintendo
2. Genesis
3. Neo Geo
4. Turbografx-16/PC Engine
5. CD-i

Great generation either way.

Genesis all the way, baby. Super Nintendo is a great console but it doesn't have as many games that appeal to me as the Genesis or Neo Geo do

Someday sociologists will look back and be like "hey, it turns out that making up stupid polls asking people to pick their fourth-favorite Singaporean Atari Jaguar game is a sign of advanced mental illness, just like we thought."

SNES, no question.

By the way, does NGCD belong on this poll? It came out in 1994, alongside Playstation and Saturn.

And poor PC Engine. It was supposed to belong to the previous generation, which it could have dominated.

I voted genesis, arcade styled games for the home and enough original games for it to.I have nothing against the snes it did excel with the rpgs and platformers etc.The TG16,was really part of more with the 3rd generation. It was made to compete with the NES.In japan at least it was and the TG16 had more quality games on CD then the sega-cd did.

Cosigned. I really hate this new naming convention that the Wikipedia crowd has been pushing. Calling 16-bit systems "fourth generation" just screams "I am not old enough to have lived through the 16-bit era".

Edit: And I voted Genesis, obviously.

Voted Commodore CDTV since there wasn't just a Commodore Amiga option.

o.0 16-bit might generate confusion; I use 16-bit all the time, but only when referring to just the Genesis and SNES, or to games made to evoke nostalgia for SNES/Genesis games.

Is it time to have another holy war about whether the Neo Geo is really 24-bit? ;)
