Overall, SNK by a hair.

I think both companies have an equal amount of good characters to choose from.

SNK for great fighting games.

-King of Fighters Series
-Fatal Fury Series
-Art of Fighting Series
-Samurai Showdown Series
-Last Blade Series

Capcom for non-fighting games.

-Bio Hazard Series
-Giga Wing Series
-Devil May Cry
etc

hard choice:i say a draw.

capcom for gameplay.
SNK for characters and stories.

Capcom (by a whisker) -> for gameplay, characters (because of VS), graphics, sound and feel. IMO they are better overall, just look at Vampire Saviour and Marvel VS Capcom.

I still LOVE SNK but I don't think they're as good at making games in general when compared to Capcom (there's very little in it though).

I mean, he's the only character where people will say "He's too powerful!" (CoTA) and then say "He's too weak!" (XmenVsSF). He's never "Yes..That is how he should be".

Although...MoTW has the most original line up that I've seen since SFII hit the market.

I don't think this is something I can decide.

Capcom has a little more depth into other genre's other than fighters.

p.s. also...the Evil Ryu and Evil Sakura action figures are cool!

1)gameplay is really too difficult to define and is arguable at best.Each company has its style and each individual game has its own flare.theres no validness in your point.
2)charecters is what snk truly has over the competion.Snk has the best charecter design to date.Capcom comes in second.Vs. series?pleeeeeaaaaase!marvel charecters dont count and are not owned by capcom nor can be considered capcom charecters.Once again I find nothing valid in your defence of crapcom.
3)sound?thats a joke right?Have you listened to any kof,ff,or ss AST's??im not talking OST here.Streetfighter 3 third strike had such a below mediocre soundtrack.Maybe thats what crapcom fans are used to...not to mention those horrible "music" that was in capcom vs. marvel 2 and capcom vs. snk.GARBAGE AND TRASH.If you've noticed but the vs. series from day 1 has had poor versions of popular themes.They take good capcom music and turn it ugly.Noticed it?No valid points here.
4)feel...hmmmm..obviously this is the one true reason you prefer capcom over snk.1 valid point found.

vampire savior or marvel vs capcom are not good examples black wizard.Marvel vs. capcom is a childs game compared to kof.All the wee d heads play that game(mvs) and so do the young children where I play(tells you something...).As for the vampire series.I love it but hate the waycapcom treats it.OLDEST GRAPHICS EVER.since 1994 !!!update needed capcom!!are you listening!!!!its turning out like world hereos(no graphic update)........

BOTTOM LINE-SNK IS SUPERIOR AT 2-D FIGHTING GAMES.CAPCOM IS SUPERIOR AT OTHER TYPES OF GAMES.

1. Agreed, gameplay is variable, but in general I prefer the feel of Capcom's games.

2. k, first off I used the .vs. series to state how Capcom are FAR better at graphics than SNK. I didn't use it to show character design, come on give me some credit, I know Capcom don't own Marvel (I haven't been living under a rock all my life, at least I don't think I have *paranoia kicks in* <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">).

3. Ok, I was wrong about sound, I just thought I'd stick that in as a con and hope for the best <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">. Just to clarify I hate dance music and it's ilk, I'm into all types of Metal as well as Rock, Blues and Classical music. IMO the best soundtracks I've heard are Dracula X and Guilty Gear X. Any soundtrack with dance music as it's style I don't like but will grin and bear it.

4. Vampire Saviour is an excellent choice to portray Capcom's greatness, excellent graphics (bad graphics my ass), great feel and gameplay, killer character design and a great combo system. I used the .vs. series, as I said above, to simply show Capcoms graphical superiority (apart from that it to has a great feel to it and it's bloody good fun). Oh yeah, it's not a kids game btw, the fact that it's full of comic characters might account for the reason that kids play it alot <IMG SRC="smilies/tongue.gif" border="0">.

I really should have thought alot more about character design before I spouted out that Capcom are better, SNK own Capcom when it comes to charecter design (with the exception of the Vampire series). I don't know what I was thinking, I didn't look past the Vampire series to Streetfighter etc (I'm not counting the .vs. series for character design), which haven't a scratch on any of the SNK characters.

*Rethinking my opinion*........Ok, I reckon it comes to a draw in the 2D fighthing category, but, as you said Capcom are better at other genres, So overall I still prefer Capcom.

Points 1,2 and 4 are about "graphical superiority" that you think capcom has over snk.The only time in fighting games when capcom has nicer looking graphics over snk graphics is when they use the naomi board.There cps II and III look no better then a neogeo mvs game.

nope.Vampire savior is NOT a good choice to show off capcom graphics(streetfighter III or marvel vs.capcom are).You do not say a game from 1994 is a good choice to show off capcoms "superiority" in graphics.Although its graphics are good,vampire series badly needs revamped graphics;but lazy as capcom wont allow it.Oh yeah,you forgot to mention another reason why kids play marvel vs. capcom;simplicity in controls.A super is qcf+two buttons*yawn*
At least in the vampire series they have difficult supers like strong,jab,back,short,fowards(morrigan,gallon)

nope.Vampire savior charecter design is not the eppitamy of capcom nor fighting game charecter design superiority.Half the charecters look like freaks or jokes.In the vampire series these charecters look fine but put next to REAL charecters they look silly and childish(a frankenstein,a sasquatch,a gay merman....I rest my case).Ever thought about that?

Vampire Savior was released in '97.

When I say vampire savior im implying the overall darkstalker series.Darkstalkers was released in 1994.The main graphics havent changed since then.

Hidden Warrior, read my replies properly.

1. Point 1 and 4 are NOT about graphical superiority, read them and you will see that. However point 2 is.

2. I didn't use Vampire Saviour to portray graphics, I used it as an overall statement of Capcoms greatness (ok, I did say that it has excellent graphics, which I think it has), I used Marvel VS Capcom to portray Capcoms graphical superiority.

3. So what if a game doesn't reqire a master of 2D fighters to be good at it, Marvel VS Capcom is still a fun game to play. It's full of comic characters so who's gonna be attracted to it, kids (mainly), so what are Capcom gonna do, make an incredibly complex combo system that no kid can master or make it easier to get into allowing kids to pump more money into the machine cause they know that it's not an impossible game to become good at. It still has a cool combo system behind it (discarding the simplicity of the supers).

4. That's how the characters are meant to look. What, you think a Frankenstien/Zombie/Sasquatch should look like a normal human beings. If they were meant to look like "REAL characters" then they would be designed that way, each game has it's own character style so you cant say "well if you compared the KOF series to the Vampire Series then the Vampire characters look stupid", of course they do, they're cartoony looking whereas KOF characters have a more serious look to them. Look at the Samurai Showdown series, they're stupid looking when compared to "REAL characters".

P.S: None of the above is flaming, just my opinions.

Come Come Now, is there even a serious point to the discussion? Dont get me wrong guys and gals, I love SNK I am a die hard fan but I have the real Capcom VS SNK for the Naomi and there is no way on earth I dont care who wants to differ, an SNK Fighter can stand up to a Capcom Fighter!! Even with Ken and Ryu crippled with 4 buttons its still a Smoker!!!

Its soo hard to choose for me, theres geese, yamazaki, and rugal on one side, than there's akuma, ken.... but in the end it would have to be SNK, because quite simply "You Cannot Escape from death" and "I'll stain my hads with yor blood" are just 2 cool quotes, oh yah they also make superb fighting games or so I am told
