Yay!

So I just won a Jap AES on eGay. Boxed, with official SNK Memory Card and two games;
Fatal Fury Special, and Samurai Spirits (Shodown :P).

Couple of things though;

1./ It's an unmodded Japanese console playing Japanese games - I assume it's not going to display the text in English? :lolz:

What's the easiest way to make this happen? The UniBIOS mod?

2./ It is also a 'low' serial number, or that's what the auction says.

I assume this means it outputs true RGB?

What exactly constitutes a 'low' serial number - I.E. When was the cutoff point where the AES stopped being true RGB?

Cheers!

Ben.

1. Yes Unibios or swap the bios for a US or Euro one.
2. All AES systems output RGB, the lower serial just had a higher output making it look more vibrant.

The low serial isn't an exact thing since we have seen some consoles with what was a low serial but had a 2nd gen board in it. Any AES with a 1st gen board would be considered a "low" serial no matter what the actual serial is.

Thanks for the input guys!

I'm sending it away to have it properly modded at Console Passion. They're going to fit a UniBIOS, a lighted Power/Reset button, a 50Hz - 60Hz switch, and if it's not a 1st Gen board, do a mod to get true RGB.

I can't wait to get it! It will nicely complement my NGPC collection, and my CMVS.

Sorry for the double post.

I forgot to say - I'll be needing a stepdown transformer suitable for converting the Japanese console to UK voltages.

Anyone got any suggestions or reccommendations in that area?

Cheers!

Thanks man!

Bit worried - sent the seller a message at the same time as paying for the item (about 7PM). It's now 2AM and I've heard nothing...

I'll get that stepdown, though.

Don't use a stepdown transformer. Buy a proper UK AC adapter that outputs a suitable voltage, wattage and polarity for the Neo.

Can you say that again in n00b-speak, please? :D

Do you mean, buy the UK version PSU?

Is it a straight fit into the Jap AES?

Devices that use an AC adapter run on DC in the end anyway. Get a proper UK power supply that outputs the DC you need. Getting a step down for a Japanese AC adapter just adds another step in the process, and is a waste of money and electricity.

Maybe a UK Neo power supply will work. Find out if your system needs the 5v or the 12v, but I believe the Japanese ones use a 5v AC adapter.

Hey guys!

Sorry for the double post, but I received my Neo Geo AES today through the post.

It's mint, and so are the games!

The console has this on the bottom (excuse the shorthand - I only wrote down the important numbers);

"NEO - O
8W
PRO-POW 3 AC
90A 149591"

Whereas the PSU has on it;

"DC 10V - 1000mA"

Anything significant there? I thought it was odd the serial number was so high, given the auction was for a 'low serial' AES... <_<

Hmmm, I'll have to check my AES but I think you require the same power source as I use.

Mine was a Jap console that said ProPow3 on the bottom. I've now got Unibios 3 in it and it's awesome.

As for power supplies I'm using a multi voltage adapter from Argos at the moment. It might not be "cool" but it works great for me. Plus it's a lot cheaper than finding an official UK supply.

Thanks man!

I'm looking at running the Super MVS Convertor II on it, along with some choice MVS carts.

Ben.

If you plan to run a SMVS Convert 2 on that AES you will need a stronger PSU.

Something at least 1.5amps on a +10v, preferably 2 amps.

hi there, congrats on your new AES!!
interestingly enough, i myself just got
a JPN AES, and two games;
MAGICIAN LORD and a JPN version SAMURAI SPIRITS 1.
i also have NAM 1975 in the way, and after that,
SENGOKU,
THE SUPER SPY, and
NINJA COMBAT.
i also have a fellow here on this site
whose going to sell me JPN copies of
WORLD HEROES 1 and FATAL FURY 2.

further, like you, i wish to get a UNIBIOS installed.
i'm scouting around for the best modder to do it,
with the least distance shipping from OREGON...
