I played through the Japanese version many months back and after several delays (it was suppose to be out in the USA in July) Contact for the DS is finally out.

It took me 22 hours to beat the Japanese version and I missed a ton of stuff. Not to mention, my stats were only about 30% full, if you are into level building. The reviews have been above average but not as high as they should be IMO. I reviewed the game after beating it and gave it a 9/10. I think that it is among the best five games out for the DS.

I just picked up the USA version and plan on playing through it again as I missed the story the first time through. It is a very cool game that I recommend, it is also put out (in the USA) by Atlus which may or may not mean it will be hard to find at some point.

Really the only negative I had with this game was that there was no end game save. So, if you want to continue to find the items you missed or level up, you have to do it pre last boss. You can beat the end boss and go back to your last save, I just prefer games that allow you to beat the game and continue on.

I can see it being a game that not everyone will like but it is different than most games released now days. I import a lot and I have rarely purchased a game I have already beaten the Japanese version of. However, I enjoyed Contact so much the first time through, I really wanted to play it again.

I am now a few hours into the game and appreciate it more now than I did months back. There are a lot of hidden areas in this game. Make sure to press up against walls when walking around and you will find some good secrets. When you get to the Pyramid level, this is a great place to earn tons of money and build your stats.

If you get bored, you can always go around and kill off everyone, although your karma will take a pretty good hit. (That and they respawn the next time you come back to that area)

Looks Earthbound-y in appearance only, I'm still interested in trying it out.
Knowing Atlus, finding a copy in a few months could be hard, but who knows.

Yes, the top screen has that look to it.

I am about six hours into the USA version but I am taking my time leveling up since I have already seen the ending by beating the Japanese version. Although there is not a lot of story to the game, it is nice to read what the characters were saying. Also, collecting is a big part of the game and now I can read what everything is.

It is a unique game that is very well done IMO. However, after reading the average to above average reviews for Contact, it is no wonder games like Mother 1, 2 and 3 (GBA) never came out here. I just don't think people (reviewers/general public) appreciate games like this.

Honestly man, I don't know.

Sometimes I'm infatuated with it. Finding new items, food, etc. is cool as hell. And I get a kick out of it. And some of the humor is pretty good. And leveling stuff up is also fun. But dammit some of the fights are just retarded (fights against Lester, the boss in the military base which is where I'm at now).

It has a lot going for it, and its definitely a unique experience... but... for some reason I'm just not completely grasping it yet. I'm sure as I get deeper into it and exploring starts playing a much larger role I'll be enjoying it a lot more (even though I'm already enjoying it a lot, when I'm not cheaply getting killed).

At the start of the military level (early in the forrest) did you find the guy that has a shop? If so, just load up on the blue drink and you won't really have to worry about dying again. They cost $80 each (so you do have to have enough money to buy them) but they take up almost no stomach room, so you are able to drink them with out filling up. This basically ends up allowing you to keep your health full through out all of the battles.

I purchased about 80 of these when I had the Japanese version and never ran out. I am at that point now and I am just making enough money to load up on these again.

There is a lot to find in this game if you really look around. The Pyramid stage has a lot of hidden items. I never ended up finding them all in the Japanese version. Just stick with it and I think you will appreciate it in the end. It is a game that not everyone will like though.

One of these days, we will all (all two or three of us) have to list our Contact friends codes.

I'm planning on picking this up this week, been looking forward to it for awhile. Plus I'm curious to try a game developed by Grasshopper that's not M-rated. :p

Well, I am now six hours into the USA version and I enjoying it all over again. It is clear that I could beat it a lot faster this time since I know what to do but I am having fun leveling up and finding all of the items.

Here is a tip that may help you all out if you haven't done it already. In the first town, there is a spice cellar with two very tough beetles in there. When you first get there it is unlikely that you will be strong enough to beat them. It also appears that there is no real point in doing so. However, one of the beetles drops a weapon that ends up being among the best in the game. I beat the Japanese version using only that weapon.

I am sure that most people will do this on their own but it is a nice find that is worth the battle.

Sounds like something I'd definitely like to play. I'll throw it on my que.

I see the Wifi Logo on this game. How does online work with it?

I have not tried the Wi-Fi. I have read that you just make "Contact" with others and it shares information. Those people become players in your world. (?)

I have been putting almost all of my time into this. Great Game.

Just traded some stuff in for this and a preorder of FF3.

I pretty much just started, just got to the military base. The game is very cool and has alot of attention paid to the dialogue and overall "idea" that they were going for. The music and sound effects are great, the music especially does alot more odd'ish sounding melodies that are very cool. I even like the battle system which I think works very well for this kind of game.

My only complaint is that Morty's (err... Terry maybe in your game :)) world is a little washed out looking. So far there are alot of repeated tiles and objects. Combined with a battle system that is leveling intensive, gives the game a very old school feel. Honestly it reminds me alot of the Ultima games on the PC. Anyone else feel like they are playing a PC RPG?

So far I'd definitely recomend it. Breath of fresh air!

So... Let's try out this WiFi thing!

You can check your Friend Key by going to the Connect option from the main screen, then Friends, then View/Add Friends. Your number will be at the bottom.

Mine is:
0000 8212 7883

I'm curious about what it does... the manual mentions that your Friends will show up as NPC's. Probably some exclusive items too. Sounds cool!

I have never played Ultima but I have seen that reference for that and Contact before. I agree with your comments. Contact is really a different game and I have had a blast playing it again.

I will look up my friends code later (I don't have my DS with me right now) and post mine here as well. Hopefully some other members will do the same and we can find out what it does.

is this game based on the movie?

Yes, the main character is Jodi Foster. You travel to different worlds trying to find out why she doesn't like dick. The ultimate goal is to make "contact" with a compatible pussy.

EDIT....I assumed you were joking. But just in case you were not, Contact has nothing to do with the movie Contact. It is an excellent game that is different than most of the games out for the DS.

Well, I've played about a half hour and I'm already stuck. There's no FAQs for this game. I found my first green jem, and after trying to pick it up with the "A" button, hitting the green square at the top of the screen, and touching it with the stylus I can't pick it up. By touching the green square at the top of the screen and touching one of the green gem cards/stickers, it's says "You'll need this to retrieve the cells." Do you need four of them to pick up the cell??

I'm not too much further than you, just got to the desert world, but yeah to get the gems you to press that green icon in the upper right, then select the gem decal and peel it off- like you would a sticker. Then it'll go back to the game screen, just tap the gem, then press the decal on- again like a sticker. That's how you use all of the special decals that you find. The other decals are just stat enhancers.

If you get stuck you can always PM me. I beat the Japanese version and I am about half way through the USA version. I suggest that you take your time as the game is really not that long. The length comes from trying to find everything and leveling up.

Just to add. You will use this sticker for special attacks as well. You will collect these as well as a couple from the main guy as you get a little further.
