It's great.

At the time (1996 I believe) SNK was bragging about its use of motion capture on Martial Artists and then animated from that.

The entire AOF series has those lovely oversized sprites, and AOF3 easily looks the best out of all of them...

Really smooth, and one of the finest looking games on the Neo.

Also the Ultimate KO feature is a pretty neat gimmick. Somehow I managed to land one on the final boss, and my jaw had to be picked up off the floor.

It's that good :buttrock:

Btw, is it better than Rage of the Dragons?

Easily my favorite Art of Fighting. It's a little bit simplistic compared to SNK's more modern fighters, but personally I still find the game genuinely enjoyable. In my opinion, this game animates better than Mark of the Wolves.

That's a very big claim and it makes me want the game even more

MOTW has fanastic animations already how could it be better?

Btw, this would be my last AES purchase so I really want to make sure that it's worth the $350++ tag attached to it. ;)

Most people here will agree that AOF 3 is at least on the same level, and personally I just think that it edges out MOTW. Of course, the gameplay of MOTW is superior, but AOF 3 is still good stuff.

I never liked AOF 1 and 2 so I wasn't really interested in playing AOF 3 but when I got it, I loved the game to death.

Can I safely imagine Robert and Ryo moving like Kushnood Butt? If so this could be a "prize" fighter in my collection.

It's worth it.

I cant comment on Rage of the Dragons because I dont have that, but the animation is smooth, and has a certain realistic edge to it.

You won't be dissapointed.

I got ROTD because it was advertised as the next MOTW, but it felt way short and not to mention it's one of my more expensive cart.

I'l take your word guys, I'm not expecting better than MOTW graphics or animation being close to it is more than enough.

It's not animated like Kushnood Butt. It's a totally different style, and the pace of the game is totally different than MotW. AOF3 is amazing and looks beautiful, but if you're looking for something like MotW, you will be disappointed.

MotW's animation is very stylized (like most fighters). AOF3's animation is more motion captured, so the characters move more like actual people. It is drastically different. It's hard to describe, but AOF3 doesn't play as "smooth" as MotW (best I can explain it). Liking one does not guarantee you'll like both.

I like the gameplay of AOF3, but there are plenty of people who don't. Better try it out first.

Art of Fighting 3 is one of my top 3 fav fighters period. It falls right under MOTW for overall greatness in my opinion. Its not at all similar to MOTW though..so if thats what your expecting you may be disapointed.

It has a very smooth animation to it..very life-like and fluid...almost reminds me of a Disney movie to be honest. Its light years ahead of the other two AOF games, yet still retains the basic play style, with the additions of the Ultimate KO's..which basically are this...if you and your opponent are both down to the flashing red on your life bars, and you pull of a desperation/super move then you will KO the opponent and win the match..even if its in the first round. This adds alot of strategy to the matches in my opinion.

Its a great game, and worth a purchase, but if your unsure I would suggest picking it up on NGCD, or MVS first if thats an option for you. The NGCD version does have smaller sprites and a few animation cuts however, but it does not affect the gameplay..and its barely noticable either.

I've never played AOF3. Did they fix the sloppy* gameplay from 1 and 2 ?
And, is it still based around memorizing a certain pattern to beat each player ?

*By sloppy I mean,,,push a button, then wait 1/4 second for the game to respond. AOF2 has always felt like there's lag between the controller and the game.

I think it's improved a little bit, but I know what you're saying and basically it's still there. I think it's intentional, maybe to make the reaction times of the characters more "realistic" or something like that. Personally I don't really mind it all that much, for me it's just a matter of getting used to the timing. Me == SNK fanboy :kekeke:

Yup, the game plays almost like an actual fight. Occasionally , your character will get knocked on his butt, so its alot more realistic than most fighters and as a result its a bit slower paced than motw. I've also heard it being compared the virtual fighter games, with its combos and knockdowns, and it does seems to be very true, except ifor AOF being 2-d.

Also, the backgrounds are some of the best on the neo, probably better than those in MOTW. Personally, its my favorite in the series, right above the original.

AOF 3 is genuinely one of the best fighters Ive ever bought and well worth the $200 I paid for it.
I remember putting into the AES, and I had to pop out in the back garden to grab the dog, and whilst I was out, my house mate came in and thought I was playing a new xbox game - thats how good the animation is.

yup, its a sort of 2-d virtual fighter, except less "clunky" feeling than VF, and more smooth flowing, with quicker movement. Its hard to describe, but you'll like it, I'm sure.

The fighters basically move like real people. In the scenes between matches, the way the characters walk, like Yuri for instance, is incredible.

BTW, if you get the jpn home cart version, it will only cost you about $200. Well worth it for this title.

Perfection!

This game is so perfect. The animation, the backgrounds, the character design, it's wonderful. I had this on MVS a while ago, sold it, then bought it back, sold it again, and now I think I'll buy it for AES. LOVE THIS GAME.

I'm in the same boat as Athlon64, I've never played AOF3 either. THe only AOF I have played (or at least remember playing), was the first one, and I wasn't too impressed. Blocky graphics, slow animation..... But the 3rd one always seemed to stick out in the E-bay line up. For MVS you can pick up the cart for only about $30-$50. I always thought the screenshots looked cool and it seems to get good reviews.... So I think I will buy this game as well. I'm sure I won't be dissapointed.

Arcade Extreme has a combo video of it, I was on the ropes about getting it a while ago (more than a year) and after seeing it in action in this video I bought it for MVS (not much of a gamble :P). Anyhow here's the link to Arcade Extreme:

You have to register for their forums first and log in for it to download.

Anyhow, there was a thread about ROTD vs AOF3 a while ago, I'm not sure if that's still an issue but here it is:
