That's right you moral majority. If you hate these two genres of games, post here and why you hate them. *Ducks and covers from incoming flames by DashK and MercX99*

I hate FPS because
1.) it's old and well-worn out genre. Sure, you can say the same for fighters and puzzlers and other games, but I think they've done everything they can do with this tired genre.

2.) It's too popular. Every sum-a-bitch from casual gamers to wanna-be army brats (Sorry MercX99) play it, and that seems to be all they play *cough*Counterstrike, Halo*cough*

3.) Controls are messed up. MadCatz trackball/flight stick combo for DC was perfect for these games. I just don't like using a keyboard/mouse. Regular controllers are even worse.

4.) I suck at FPS.
I hate Sports because
1.) I'm not a huge enough sports nerd.

2.) It's a non-gamers genre.

3.) If you wanna play sports, join a team.

4.) Re-selling games gets you a nickel.

There are always exceptions to both, and both are really over saturated and have been for the past 5 to 10 years.

I feel the same way about 3rd person games like Metal Gear. There are some that I enjoy (Onimusha comes to mind...) but all the others just seem like the same crap to me.

I love FPS shooters.

I don't play sports games at all, not my thing.

I love FPS especially for the pc, give me a mouse and keyboard and your toasted toast my friend. On the other hand I feel your hatred toward sports titles. I hate sports in real life, be it because I never made the team in school, or because I'm a lardass.

I'm starting to get a little paranoid about playing Halo 2, people at school(mainstreamers) are starting to talk about playing. As much I want to I can not disclose my secret desire to play a mainstream game such as Halo. Please help me Headlong my desire by meeting up with me on live.

all games are rehashes nowadays.

very little original content.

yes it sucks, but fps and sports aren't alone, just the ones you like the least.

I dont play sports games at all. But thats because im not really into sports that much. Sooooo yeah.....Madden can SUCK IT!!!!!! :loco:

I do enjoy FPS games. But not to the point where some take it. Like how some dorks have to "practice" everyday on counter strike to improve their skillz for the big "match".

This can be applied to any type of game. But some games have a formula that just works well with most gamers. I admit I am burned out on sports games but FPS will stay fun for me because I like the challenge from other players.

I can say that most RPGs are some teen kids who have to save the world, all action games are gun-toting badasses who never get hit, and etc. But those are the selling points.

fps games can be great fun. i got into them around q3a and ut, so ive never really played a 1p fps before. now that i play halo (on pc!) and doom 3, theyre excellent as well.

now sports games... i really only like the ones that break the rules. like jam, street, blitz, etc.

There are always exceptions... but overall, those are pretty boring genres.

The problem here is... if you stop releasing FPS, half of the PC game industry and sales would disappear.

And... PC gamers would only be left with RTS. Hahaha.

RTS is good stuff

Age of Empires 2 is classic.

FPS is way better on pc than console. Anyone who disagrees with that ate way too many paint chips.

Sports games I used to like alot more. Mostly boring these days.

FPS is a great genre in the same way limited genres like SHMUPs, RTS, the fighting genre are great. They play against their own limitations to make some really great work, and can make for great multiplayer. At the same time, when these genres are being over produced, the level of genetic similarity between them is outright tiresome. Right now that's the FPS genre- despite some great gems coming out, there's way too many untalented games coming out. Even ones that might catch my attention for a moment like Geist, Killzone, or HL2...are they really worth buying at full price? (especially when they're so popular I'll never have trouble finding one a little later)

I don't hate sports games. It doesn't take much to figure out what makes a sports game good or bad and I can avoid the sports fans at my work except when Madden and ESPN NFL are close to launch. Still, they definitely bore me. The only sports games I really got into ever were classic NBA Jam and the Mutant League Genesis games. The only thing to really hate sports for is that they feed the beast that is EA.

I use to hate FPS alot a few years ago, because even then I was sick of how many were coming out. Now however, I'm really getting into them. I play the best FPS online regulary, Enemy Territory, a good stand alone expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which is absolutely FREE! Thats why its the best, the whole game is free, but not to mention its a damn fine WWII team-based action shooting game, Axis vs. Allies. I think the influx of WWII FPS these past couple years has renewed my interest in the genre because its a subject I enjoy reading about anyway, and playing the games is much funner when you are interested. I tend to steer clear of FPS like Halo and even Half-Life doesn't interest me that much, even though I have the game and all the expansions on my HD. It's a fun game but fighting aliens isn't as much fun as setting dynamite with my team at the Nazi fuel dump, or stealing Axis Gold in Enemy Territory.

I also like arcade sports games, but steer clear of the conveyor-belt fed Madden's and NHLx, and NBAx games. Classic quarter munchers like NBA JAM and Blitz fucking own gameplay wise, and keep you coming back by holding a minimal amount of stats for you. I love those kind of quick-play sports games, but bore easily with games where you mess with your team roster and look at stats more than you actually play the fucking game.

I'm not a huge fan of next-gen sports games....I did enjoy NFL Fever 2002 on the XBOX back when the system launched, but haven't really played any of the new Maddens, ESPN's, etc since then.

Seems like I really enjoyed sports games back in the day...like on the Neo and on the Genesis back when the market wasn't so damn saturated and riddled with non-gamers. At least then, the yearly upgrades did sometimes include some major overhauls (check out the various Baseball Stars games on the Neo and on the NES for proof of that).

As for FPS...I love em on both console and on the Mac. The Halo series will always remain a favorite of mine, and I do like the occassional Ghost Recon and Call of Duty fix on the Mac.

No offense taken. In truth I don't really "DIG" the FPS genre of games. In fact it took me awhile to get used to the prespective {i.e. seeing in 1st Person but having to remember what button does what when in real life you just do it} when I first powered up KILLZONE. *I only play select FPS games like the MOH series KillZone and a few others here and there. I prefer the 3rd person behind the character viewpoint in games like Freedom Fighters Ghost In The Shell SAC and the Max Payne stuff.

*As for me playing mostly war games, well I don't treat any game like a game. {The #1 reason I get mad about game's limitations when I have a tactic/strategy in mind that can't be implemented} To me it's a chance to test tactics and strategies in a virtual enviroment, then take it to the real world in TCS manuevers both live fire and with tactical paint ball guns in small lances {4 men} hunting the other team members down. How this makes me a wanna be Army Brat though, WTF is up your ass? I didn't pretend to grow up military, I was raised military, and unfortunately for me I studied and trained like I was already in to a point where I'm not able to shut it off, and the only way LIFE makes any sense is to see everything in this world as military objectives, {even getting married was carried out like a well planned OPS} thus what's in that link should explain me in toto.

Just because I wasn't accepted into the ranks of the regular military doesn't mean I don't keep my skills honed and continue in learning more about the Art of War and everything that goes with it. Part of the reason I don't like the idea of world peace... then there'd be literally nothing for me to do anymore. *Since TCS manuevers and sought out training is expensive {a week at a TCS course of study starts at $1200 for a 7 day course in a lot of cases}, war games used as "Study Grounds" for my studies and exectuions of them are the way to go. ---I'm the dude who turns off a game for the night if I get killed in a game. I just tell myself well, "You're dead tonight... in the real world you wouldn't be coming back, no extra token or continue for you. What did we learn from this study session Merc? Aha, you won't do that again will you." Though I have yet to be deployed overseas {yet} I do work from time to time as a security specialist amongst some others in the freelance feild showing corporations where they have crappy security measures in buildings and on estates owned by the corps. Since I don't charge too much and I've had a good rep so far, I often times get the job. Along with other self employed endeavors. So on the note of my being "wanna be" anything, go fuck yourself. OTHER THAN THAT, well you're still cool in my book. :eye: :eye:

I can't really get tired of FPS. There's too many awesome new ones coming out as it is, meanwhile I still play Desert Combat and Day of Defeat. As for sports, NHL Hitz once in blue moon, otherwise nothing.

I enjoy playing FPS games with friends, but I don't play them otherwise.

Sports games aren't often very good, with the major exception being the current state of EA's (or should I say Tiburon's) NCAA Football series... wow, they're just getting better and better every year. Granted, some of its allure comes if you went to one of the 130 or so universities featured, but the game play is absolutely great -nearly flawless. I can't stand playing ESPN or Madden football, even the latter has become substantially different than the college series programmed by Tiburon. There's a certain buzz from executing a good option play or sack.

Honestly, I rarely play NCAA as my own USC (or, to a lesser extent, Gophers), I usually try and bring minor teams to glory: like Rice or Vanderbilt or simply create a school and bring it to glory in a few seasons (in the solid dynasty mode). They're really starting to capture the gameday experience.

I'll put NCAA away for a few weeks or a month sometimes, but afterwards I want to play it again. NCAA Football 2005 may be one of my top-10 games of all time.

I think that FPS's have turned into a Reaction/tick game...
I tried to play Quake III and got my ass handed to me.

I rember playing 6 player Lan games of Duke 3d In college. It was alot more fun. It wasn't turn around the corner and start blasting. Much more puzzle solving was involved. Shooting at guys in windows, RPG battles, and bouncing objects off walls made it much more intersting.

As a 2 player game, It was intense. Very Hide and Seek. Alot more than just running and shooting. FPS developers should try to throw away dark corridors and mouse aiming and bring back the good old days of fun.

As for sports titles,

Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) throws all of those arguments out the window....

I get my ESPN NBA 2k in every year, but I definately agree about the FPS comments

I can't get into it, and I even played all the "Holy Grails" of the genre, including Halo 2 online

FPS games havnt turned into reaction/tick games... they have always been that way. Ever since Doom, then Quake (one of the fastest fps games ever) they have been very reflex oriented. If anything the genre have moved away from the fast, crazy rocket jump, DM action. And have slowed things down abit with realistic type games like Rainbow Six , Medal of Honor ,and Counter Strike.

There is no way, i can understand why people like football games. U spend way too much time in options to actually play.

For sports, i can honestly say, I enjoyed the Superstar Soccer games on N64, and I'm looking forward to both Winnning Eleven 7 and 8 for PS2.

Basketball, I don't know, the original Jam was cool, but I like Street Hoops way better.

I can say I've never played a Hockey game.

And then there's the skateboarding games. I remember I played a roller blading game on the ps back in 96, that was fun, I wish somebody gave me the title, this game was worth it.

I haven't played the Tony Hawk series, and SSX tricky looks interesting, but i need to see people who know how to play to understand more of it....

Oh now that is an out and out lie. If you took away FPS we would still be left, with, um, um, oh yea MMORPG. Oh yea, those, um, for the most part suck, and but oh yea we have, um, um, 1000's of Texas Hold'em variants, can't forget those. Ooh, and don't forget Solitaire, and Jezzball, yea that game 0wNz j00 4 phr33. And of course, who could forget the r0mzZz, and the pr0n. Yea, we're in pretty sad shape here. I'm sorry I said anything LoL. ::goes back to coding::
