I'm more or less just addressing a comment made to me in another thread by SouthtownKid where I had originally got off topic, but it might answer some questions for others of you who wonder about me at times. Not that it matters really. THIS IS FOR YOU SouthtownKid
It's not. That comes from hanging around NAM, Korea and WWII vets. Real-Time training in a lot of cases, some merely discussed and I had to study up on my own time. All in all it took the better of 19 1/2 years training with a retired Marine, a Corpal Chef {former} Legionnaire ---an American who served, and a few others. Never was actually a "Boy Scout"... the shit didn't interest me, instead I pestered and learned from the real deal, all the way up until about the year 2000 when me and 9 others "Team Midnight" had to disband and go our separate ways for a number of reasons, mostly just going in different directions, but we're trained to know what to do without being told what to do, in Urban and Rural/Mountainous terrain. Survivalism being first, soldering second, but with the heart of a warrior always. Then the big depression came when the freckin' DOD wouldn't let me put to good use my already acquired skills due to a medication I was taking... then came the dissapointment of after making it into the "Selection Bracket" for privatized Merc work, being told "You're a little too Gung Ho for us, even with your knowledge and the fact you'd be only resharpening skills and learning some new ones."
...thus now I drink, fuck, post in here and work jobs where I'm self sufficient and past the time away trying to keep my EDGE in "Virtual Reality Combat Simulation" {i.e. 3-D War games ---FPS or 3rd Person}... and of course hitting the rifle range every couple of weeks but that's it. BIG DEPRESSION for someone who basically from the time they could crawl was always interested in warfare and being amongst a brotherhood of like minded ppl. Thing is I'm finding that even amongst the brotherhoods in the military that DO exist, most of them are just normal sports watching "really don't want to be there" dudes. I can't relate. I'm supposed to reunion with 5 members of my former CSF Team but it won't be like the old days of live-fire training in the hill country, damn near getting shot, and one fuckin' riccochet that past literally past my head at one point.
...how I miss those days. *Would give anything to "Serve" so when I go on and on at times just excuse it alright dawg. Unlike most ppl who can live as a Civvie with no problems I just don't know how to live a quote on quote NORMAL life. It be like some kid back in feudal Japan training to be a "Samurai" only to be in the era where they were no longer needed. Same difference. I see the BSA mold slowing dying out, and I don't like what the nation is turning into. *Still, me and a few droogs are still trying to get training with Spetsnaz Commandos all the way in Russia. And combinding what I already know about them, that be a great thing. Anyhow that's it in a nut shell... no honor badges for me, just combative skills learned/earned and military doctrine heeded going nowhere.
*Now I do feel like I need a drink.
