I would like to start this off by saying a lot of people just don't know where to start when it comes to internet fraud and just what the laws are. A lot of people report thieves to the Internet Fraud Bureau but the fact is in this new day and age cyber crime is happening so often these agencies are overwhelmed with reports and the bigger cases are handled first with small 'game transactions gone bad' being very insignificant in the grand scale of things. There is something you can do!!!
I would like to start this off by saying a lot of people just don't know where to start when it comes to internet fraud and just what the laws are. A lot of people report thieves to the Internet Fraud Bureau but the fact is in this new day and age cyber crime is happening so often these agencies are overwhelmed with reports and the bigger cases are handled first with small 'game transactions gone bad' being very insignificant in the grand scale of things. I put together a step by step guide below and maybe this will help!
I have used this method and it works.
The Step-by-Step Plan
Step 1:
Okay the first thing that needs to be done is gather all email correspondence from the party that is trying to commit the crime and all the email that you have sent them. I suggest printing the emails off. If the transaction took place on say Neo-Geo.com or eBay, you should also get a copy of the ad or auction and payment receipt for your cancelled check, money order, or Payal.
Please make sure you keep all emails and receipts! They are crucial evidence!!!
Step 2:
Using his/her address find out where the local state police,local police, and prosecutor are located and call information and get the phone numbers.
Step 3:
Start with the local police and state police and ask to talk to the internet fraud division. This division should be within the local or state police one. Ask to speak to an investigator.
Step 4:
Once on the phone with an investigator let him know the situation and that you have email and payment receipts and tell him you want to swear out a warrant for internet fraud.
