Tachibana Ukyo is loosely based on Sasaki Kojiro, who was known for his Tsubame Gaeshi technique. Ukyo's character begins Samurai Spirits on a quest for a rare flower to give to his girlfriend, Kei Odagiri. However, in Samurai Spirits II, Ukyo begins to display characteristics of tuberculosis, through coughing blood during and in between matches. This apparent disease does not interfere with his ability to be present in almost all Samurai Shodown installations. He is currently only missing from Samurai Spirits Yomigaerishi Soukou no Yaiba (Warriors Rage 2 in the US).
