The King of Fighters series began in 1994, taking characters from the [[Fatal Fury series]] , the [[Art of Fighting series]], [[Ikari Warriors]], [[Athena]], and the various sports games ([[3 Count Bout]], [[Street Slam]], [[Football Frenzy]], along with some original characters. The series continued each year until KoF 2003, as it was the last KoF for the Neo-Geo home system. It has since transitioned to other arcade hardwares.<br />
The major arcs in the KoF storyline include the [[Orochi]] and [[NESTS]] arcs.
