Just curious who your favorite video game composer is and a few examples of their work.

For me it was tough but edging out Koji Kondo was Jeremy Soule. The guy just has a way of making some of the most moving stuff to grace the medium.

A few of my favs

It's a toss up between Yuzo Koshiro and Nobuo Uematsu. Koshiro's music is the kind of stuff I'd actually like to listen to outside of a game, while Uematsu's music just brings forth tremendous emotion that most music outside of classical can't come near, and he did it with relatively shitty hardware

Good question.

I'm mostly a Capcom fan so most of my favorite game composers come from them. Off the top of my head Masami Ueda, Hideyuki Fukasawa, Tetsuya Shibata are ones I like a lot.

From other companies I like Akira Yamaoka and Koji Kondo.

Who is/are the KoF composer/s because whoever it is is fucking awesome.

Is that Tommy Tallarico?

If so then yeah he's cool in my book. Liked his work on Earthworm Jim. Speaking of 90s composers, Alexander Brandon and Terry S. Taylor kick a whole lotta ass.

Some of those previous mentioned (Yamaoka, Koshiro) also Hitoshi Sakamoto and Manabu Namiki.

There's probably a shitload more, but never paid full attention. If I did, like many here, this list would probably get pretty out of hand...

And Kyd's work-the Team Scavenger stuff, Amiga...the older the better.

Namiki...entire catalog.

And I don't know who writes their material, but SST band/B•Univ are where it's at, too.

Yuzo Koshiro for Streets of Rage, Michiru Yamane for Castlevania I honestly can't think of more; these aren't the only two though.

Oh and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, just for this:

Shit, Shroom just reminded me of Tim Follin. Off the back of this, Jeroen Tel and Andrew Barnabas.

His work on Global Gladiators is pretty good too. Going to see him next year at Videogames Live.

For me, it starts with Nobuo Uematsu and his consistently good work on the FF series. In particular, I like FF4 and FF7. Next, Akira Yamaoka and his work on SH, including the vocal tracks. Round it off with Yasunori Mitsuda and Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms).

I'd have to say Nobuo Uematsu for all the sentimental nostalgia or whatever. Squaresoft's SNES years had a HUGE impact on my childhood.

Other than him I'd have to say it's the guy that did the OSTs for Jet Set Radio and JSRFuture.

Honorable mention to the dude who did The Last of Us tracks, LOVED the soundtrack.

Yuzo Koshiro, and anyone that ever worked at Technosoft.

The Battle Garegga soundtrack is pretty awesome too!
