Yay, I can buy the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on without worry.
My only gripe about the 360's DVD playback and upscaling via my TV's VGA input was the so called "black crush". Dark scenes were waaaay too dark. Watching a movie like "Pitch Black" would have been fitting as half the scenes would have been audio only.
However, I tried two of the most troublesome scenes from my recent memory (the scene with the bats and the maiden rescue in King Kong, and the black opening title of Steamboy) and both looked like whole new movies.
I could see the light! (perhaps a bit too much, for all I know its a bit washed out now. But it looked decent to me, and much better than before).
So there you go, just a heads up for those of you who had the same problem as me ( all two of you out there
