Ya I know I'm late to the party on these and I know it's a long shot. Seems to be a few different versions of the NT. If it has HDMI then I'd be interested. Might have some trade bait, possibly neo geo related, if someone is interested in going that route instead.

And ya I realize there is a boatload of these on ebay...but, I kind of like my vital organs and would rather not part with any of them at the moment.

Or buy the new n64 one and wait for the jailbreak. You could also just buy the pocket and dock and have access to a lot of gaming via fgpa

Sent a PM.

The Analogue consoles are great if you want to use actual carts. Not sure if I'd bank on the N64 FPGA being multi-core after the jailbreak. Not all Analogue Jailbreaks are multi-core (at least I think only the NT had multi-core functionality after the jailbreak?).

If going that route, the Pocket/Dock combo is every bit as robust as a Mister and easier to set up imo.

I'm sure there will be some stuff. NES/SNES/GENESIS seems like a no brainer.

Thanks guys. I just dug up a box of ~100 NES and SNES carts that have been tucked away probably since 2015. Just want to dick around with those for a bit, so not really interested in Misters or even sideloading games and stuff.

Analogue Pocket is interesting and tempting though, as I also dug up a good amount of GB and GBA games. Biggest concern tbh are the controls, which some folks here say are pretty bad.

Nah, pocket controls are great! From fighters, to platformers, to shmups, I've never had an issue...and I'm SUPER picky with d-pads.

Why not a real nes/snes with an upscaler?

I hear that - Great option for many of us!

That said, just playing devils advocate here. Cost and ease of hook-up would the barriers to entry.
  • Cost of OG hardware (which, to find something in decent shape, is already a significant cost).
  • + Quality upscale device cost - at the very least a Tink 2X Pro (+$100)
  • + Console Mods and Cables to get the output you want
    • I wouldn't run anything less than S-Video, but if you want Component or RGB that's a significant expense.
    • I also don't think the NES can do anything but composite out of the box (fact check me on this)?
  • + Everdrive of some sort.
  • Could easily be $400+ or more.
Analogue - if you can find a good price - offers crips 1080p output, plenty of tools to customize your image for your display, can double as an Everdrive if jailbroken.

I'm pretty sure Bunnyboy's $200 Retro AVS is in stock and ready to ship, if you're interested in dropping that kind of coin on a NES system. I've had mine forever and don't have any complaints with it.

There must be some production issues or something because some of them have poor d-pads. The one I've tried on a limited yellow pocket didn't feel right at all. I'm not sure which color Prof bought but he wasn't a fan of its d-pad either. Is your Pocket an older one?

I'm not a fan of the d-pad. I know some people like it but I can't play tetris as well as I do on the OG gameboy color vs the pocket.

Component or RGB that's a significant expense.

why? Snes can output RGB scart (40-45 for cable) out the box or you can get the HD Retrovision Component cables for 70 or something. I would't say SIGNIFICANT.

but the setup would cost:

SNES (80) + Scart cable (40) + GBS control (60) = 180

baller (roker) style:

SNES JR with RGB mod (150) + scart (40) + 2x scart (80) = 270 or even more if I use it on my 5x, so more like 500

You're correct. The SNES can do RGB stock. That said, for NES, that would require a mod if the desire is to go above composite.

Mines newer - got it...in April of this year. Just the default black version. Looks like the newer revisions have a better d-pad (did a quick search).

I second this. I've had an AVS for years, it's great.

I think the NT was limited as special chip games couldn't be played off SD. People just recommended to get an FxPak Pro etc.

AN64 so far has listed a Cyclone 10 GX FPGA. Other FPGA's pair that with a Cyclone V. So there's a chance the N64 may be highly limited and play what its advertised and the usual old stuff.
