Looking for some coins for my blast city cabinet. Looked on eBay but I don't know shit about all the different versions.

Try contacting rancor on the shmups forum. That's where I got mine and a Taito ashtray to put them in.

If you're flying anytime soon you can always try a currency exchange booth. I've gotten around 35 coins this way on various trips :)

Not so much any more. I fly quite a bit and none of those Travelex currency exchange booths carry any sort of coinage, for purchase anyway. Same goes for their booths in malls that I've checked. I still ask periodically though but like some of the other's have said, Rancor can ship you a roll pretty quickly which is where I got mine.

I know it's more fun to use 100 jpy coins, but fwiw I've successfully re-calibrated both 100 and 50 yen coin mechs to take nickels. 50y coin mechs are easy, usually just the one screw for the thickness of the coin and you're good to go.

my shmup cab uses 100 yen, my other 2 cabs just use nickels. Plus they'll take 50yen too without any adjustments.

Sure.

This page is your friend:

http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/AD-81P_Coin_Acceptor

most coin acceptors are similar.

to make a 50y take nickels, all i had to do was adjustment 2 in this picture:

http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/File:AD81P2_Front.jpg

turned that to the right I believe to make it take thicker coins. You should be able to drop a nickel in your 50y slot and see it get stuck near that screw, or between points 2 and 3. Turn the screw slowly until the coin passes.

For the 100y a few more slight adjustments were needed, but I just carefully read and followed the instructions on that first link.

I have 25 coming in next week. Call your local coin shops and you will be surprised what you might find. For the oregon people, Justin @ Liberty coin and currency's beaverton store is who hooks me up!

Did you just order a current 100 yen coin? When i go on ebay there are tons of variations. Is there anything specific about them? I had read there was a larger size coin too.

I called up my bank and they had a location downtown that offered currency exchange. Yen being one of the options.

Every bank and exchange I called only did paper money. Most won't do coins because of shipping weight. Better make sure that Yen is actually coin and not paper money.

Just wanted to update in case people were still looking, I contacted Rancor like K-2 suggested and he got me some coins and ashtray super quick!
