Why the hell would someone sleep overnight somewhere to get a game system?!?

The day that the PS3 came out was just another day to me... in fact, I never even had any idea that the PS3 was coming! But then I turned on the news, and what do I see? Thugs robbing gamers and game stores at gunpoint for PS3 consoles (or money people saved to buy the thing.)

Is this what the nation has deteriorated too? Where I am from originally, in Jamaica, you could easily lose your life for pulling out a PSP in the wrong side of town, or even at a dance or something where someone just sees an opportunity to take without any consideration for your life. Hell, in the days when those shoes with the red lights were a fad, people sometimes got shot in the back, and some disparate lowlife would just pull the shoes off of the body…. So I can understand someone getting robbed at gunpoint for a $600 console that could earn you a large profit on EBay… but I never wanted to believe it. It goes to show you how disturbing human nature can be.

Considering where I live is close to a high crime area here in Baltimore, there is no fucking way I would EVER sleep overnight for a damn game console, my personal safety is MUCH more important to me. Hell, just a week ago some perp in this area died when he decided to rob someone over an MTA bus ticket (only worth less than $4 for an 24hr bus/light rail pass!), an undercover cop killed him (MTA now has undercover cops on the transit system now, due to the disturbing trends in violent crime in the area.)

Even though I wished I pre-ordered a PS3 or two (for making an eBay profit $$$), you could never pay me any amount to sleep overnight, in the cold, with shady people around at night... though I carry personal protection.

I used to think the term "camping out" for a game system was just a euphemism, but it isn't -- these people are literally camping. With tents, portable heaters, and sleeping bags. Many of them since Monday or Tuesday. It is crazy. I'd much rather go back to the times when you could pay a slightly inflated price for the Japanese system before the US launch. I will never line up for a system again. You're right, it's crazy. The people walking by looking at the line as if we were insane were totally right.

You're right, it is crazy. Human beings today will do the craziest stunt or pay the most amount for a flippin' material object. It's crazy how humans will give out their life savings for a material object but will beg for money when they need to make a car payment, a house note, or insurance (any kind). :oh_no: This is why I am always late to the party cause right now something could happen. Those folks that robbed the others for the PS3, I hope the systems die on them or get a read disc error.

WORD.

I still can't believe that (3) people were shot of this, (1) person trampled over, (1) person stabbed, and another dude with his face getting shoved into a light pole. AND THAT'S JUST WHAT WAS REPORTED! It's just ri-fucking-diculous how far ppl will go to have their "cool" image of having the latest & greatest system before everyone else. With the whirlwind surrounding the PS3s launch and the chaos that followed it, me thinks it's safe to bet that SONY will no doubt win this console war (yet again)... because these are ppl who are willing to pay teh $599.99 pricetag + a game or two. This just solidifies the fact that no matter how bad the ass raping the consumer/gamer gets from Kutaragi-san... everyone'll just bend over and ask for it up the keister. Sad fucking day we're living in indeed. Don't make me a nevermind though, I'll be too busy playing my PS2 well into next year as I have yet to even power up (Mercenaries, Urban Reign, Killer 7, Mafia, Aeon Flux, and Shadow of Rome)

Heh, one thing is for sure, i'll be happy and content with my PS2, Gamecube, and DS for a while longer! I don't HAVE to have a PS3 or a Wii right now. Those can wait! Everyone fails to realize that being cool is temporary... Plus, the idiots that pay somewhere in the thousands for this, needs to be whacked against the head HARD!

gaming nowadays has never been so unappealing. Its turned into what everything else is.

Remember the days when you were called a nerd or a geek if somebody came to your house and saw a system laying by your tv? Nowadays they got rappers dropping names of systems in their raps. Fuckin ridiculous.

I miss the days when we were a niche society where you didn't have to worry about getting a copy of a game or a system without fear of being trampled as you went to the store to get it.

I hope and pray the whole gaming community falls over and collapses into itself and then has to start back at 1. People like us won't be worried cuz we'd have games and systems from times past to hold on to unlike these fools who probably sell all of their old shit to get the newest shit.

The likelyhood of something like that happening is 0. But you can hope can't you?

Heh, it'll be like the old days of having your friends come over asking to play on the SNES or Genesis when the PS3 has nothing more than what's already out. Same for the Wii too...

we can only dream my man. Its so bad that I just really don't care right now. Right now I only care about 4 games. Tekken 6, Virtua fighter 5, Killzone 2 and Halo 3 and they are all kinda far away still.

I had no idea of the release dates of all 3 of the systems. I just said to myself "i'll get them when I get them". I honestly could care the fuck less.

Right now i'm about to hook up my dreamcast and play MOTW........

i hung out with my friends, my boss, and a couple other people tonight outside of bestbuy. and these people were camping, waiting for the wii. now my area of town is a upper middle class suburb so i'm sure everyone was pretty safe out there. but safety really isn't the issue here, these people were so desperate for this system on launch date they'd camp out for it. my own fucking boss was out there to get one for his son. i'm standing there in the cold playing kof in the back of my friend's 4runner wondering to myself why do these people want this thing so much? i mean yeah i'm a pretty material guy and i love having nice stuff. but i just don't see why we even need new consoles now.

i'm not done with my PS2, and GC. hell i'm not even close to being done with my dreamcast, saturn, or SNES. how can they want something new? i'm playing kof98 on a modded box in the back of a car in the bestbuy parking lot while a bunch of kids watch anime on their laptops and discuss games that they like with each other. not play the shit, just talk about it. is gaming really dead? is the stuff we had just a memory? is the future of gaming coming in 3 years with new consoles? maybe then i'll just be buying a PS3 or 360.

nintendo to me seems to have the right idea taking a more progressive and innovative approach. but even so when did gaming become about who's got what, how much is it, and where can i get it? and lose the dark tv screen lit bedroom and effort put into pushing that system to it's max and cramming a ton of shit into the cartridge. i guess that why i like the neo geo, SNK to me just had the most guts, and kept doing what they wanted despite not making much money doing it. i'm not ready for the future of gaming, i wanna take ryo hazuki another time around yokosuka harbor, i wanna have mario meet yoshi again, i wanna play as the totally useless toad in mario 2, and i wanna go "woah how did you do that?!" when i see someone shoot a hadoken in SFII. call it regression, call it being an old man. i call it not being done with what i still have yet.

Money. When graphics started to have CG and your average joe started to play videogames.then companies saw this and tried to cater to them in ways to make money.

its only going to get worse.

I feel you though. I am totally not finished what "yesteryears" games. There are so many possbilities and sequels that could have happened with older games that were just left undone. I mean it was great to see Capcom vs SNK happen but there was so much more that could have been done with that. They aren't finished yet they keep going.

In all honesty, I don't think us TRUE gamers will ever be finished with games from yesteryear. Hell, I've been playing Wild Arms 2 for almost seven years and I still can't beat it! There are plenty of NES, SNES, Genesis, and Dreamcast games I have yet to play. With the games coming out on the PS2, I still have those to worry about. Just as long as the gaming "fad" dies down, we'll be in good shape cause hey, we we're the ones that kept it alive during the late 80s, and 90s! It's not like the mainstream crowd kept the companies and the games alive in those time, right?
