Why does KOF XII suck so much? (Was "So KOF XII is delayed?")

Good news: The patch is up for the PS3 version!

Bad news: It's 772 MB. o_O That's going to take a little while to download.

This is the order select bug I'm referring to. It happens both offline and online. And I agree, I'm also liking this game more than SF4 and BB.

Does your controllers start button autolock? Looks like that button may be messed up, because that same shit only happens off the random select if you hold start.

The size of that patch makes me believe they completely revamped that entire mode. Someone dl that shit on a true connection and post up info asap. I'll dl it tomorrow and do a run down if nobody else does

I'm at 25% right now. PSN's always pretty slow for me. If I'm still awake when this is done, I'll post impressions.

That files size makes me wonder if there's going to be any extras they might have thrown in, or if they revamped a bunch of shit like Krauser just said. Also makes me wonder what's going to happen with the XBox 360 version-- I thought they couldn't have update files that large in size?

That really is a interesting thing, even if its not a overhaul, making it possible to go to head to head via 'choosing a friend' is like a god damn necessity, having to be in a room to play someone is stupid really.

I'd love to see some team organization, a story and an actual damn boss. That whole time idea should be a separate mode entirely, not the main drive.

This is from gamefaqs, so take it with a grain of salt, but apparently it adds a friends match...

...and doesn't fix the lag at all. :/

It's possible that a) that poster is full of shit, b) has a shitty connection, c) people playing the game right now have yet to download the patch, and you won't see a difference until they do, or d) this is not the promised patch and something else!

Fingers crossed! Option c sounds pretty likely.

god damn, thats like the bare minimum.

Well, the fact I can play friends without work is definately gonna be a nice thing. Ashame they had to make that file so big, I know some of those 20 gb'ers are gonna shit bricks over its size.

Sigh

I played one match; it was better but still laggy. AND THE GLITCHES ARE STILL THERE. The game just locked up on me after matching up against someone with a blur bar.

*sigh*

Maybe that guy hadn't gotten the patch yet? I can only hope.

Second match was much, MUCH better. Still not as smooth as offline play, but a huge improvement. And then another blue bar player entered the room, and it froze up again.

I think I'll try again later tomorrow. :/

Impossible. PSN will automatically sign out if you don't accept the patch. That happens with every game. This one shouldn't be an exception.

I can confirm that the order select bug I (and one other member?) have been having has not been fixed in the 1.01 patch. I really wonder what this rather large patch actually did.

Well, if the PS3 patch is 770+MB then it's going to have to be either smaller or DLC for XBL. I think there's a patch limit for 360 games.

Hopefully Microsoft doesn't keep it in limbo forever. :annoyed:

I'm DL'ing the PS3 one now...we'll see if this fixes anything.

I figured out what the problem was with the order select thing.

Basically, when I first got the game the first thing I did was remap the buttons. Hard kick became X. This messed up the order select, as hard kick at that screen is apparently random select. I had two problems with this - 1. Unlike the hidden select (start, or back? if you're on the 360), the random select isn't mentioned anywhere in the game, or in the manual. and 2. For the entire first day that I had the game, the hard kick button worked just fine, selecting whatever my cursor was over. I find it extremely hard to believe that it was just a coincidence that for the whole day, I just happened to land on everything I wanted to hitting the random button. I have even more reason to believe this was a glitch, as for that first day I never landed the cursor over, "Decided".

Strange, and typical to my luck, but at least I seem to have figured it out.

770MB? what the fuck

-From Ignition's forum-

Update 1.01 Change log:
- You can press Square now to invite a friend.
- People you have fought appear in PLAYER MET now.
- Menus are faster.
- FRIENDS MATCH appears now in the Online section (no need to go through XMB method, but is still there PS3 ver that is)
- Installation is not OPTIONAL ANYMORE, the Patch technically is the Installation of the game, try to install the game and it will prop you that it's not necessary to install since the patch has the installation in it, that is the reason it's 772 mbs.
- Netcode is BETTER, yet NOT PERFECT, we aren't sure if the dedicated servers are up already or not, so we will have to wait till then to know if the patch fix the lag with the dedicated servers.

I just picked up the guide at lunch and I'm flipping through it. It's really quite good. Very well written with a lot of information that applies to other fighters and not just KoF XII. Definitely better than what I saw in the SFIV guide.

I recommend it, especially if this installment feels at all weird to you or your new to KoF all together.

The guide is good and has a lot of meat concerning combos and strategies. Two things though... there is no frame data in it, and it wasn't edited very well. For example, one of Benimaru's supers is missing and the other has the wrong motion. There was also at least 1 combo where they forget to tell you corner-only. I'm still glad I have the guide, but it's not perfect by any means.

Yes on both points. There was a comment from one of the authors regarding those exact two issues over on SRK:

"Occasional typos/command errors happen simply as part of the process...these guides come together in extremely short periods of time. And frame data in books is usually more a matter of politics than availability. Just because information is out there, and not technically owned by any one party, doesn't make other parties comfortable duplicating it."

So it is what it is. Still great to have.

Someone mentioned that you can get the frame data from Arcadia. I'm sure someone will post that information soon.

Im starting to notice Ash is very 'spammable' in online play. Everytime I play against anyone using Ash, its always spamming and turtling. I hope it doesnt end up like Ken in SF IV

Yup, that's what I was bitching about last night...the fucker would sit in the opposite corner and host lag me with double fireballs. :oh_no:

I had 3 matches against the same player. Forget the name but they were lag-free matches, so that was a plus

So far anyone (the handful) I have played against that uses Ash either send fireballs across the screen time after time, or turtle and wait for any incoming attack to do a (sorry, dont have all characters move names in my head) backflip kick, which is pretty damn hard to defend against / break through

Ash is gonna be the Ken equivilent in XII. I just hope people actually learn to use him, and not just spam the character to win

The person I played against had a C rating, where everyone else I have seen online has an F (game is so new) and I am sure its because they spam Ash as their first character, so it takes almost till the third round to finally eliminate Ash

you can roll in kof.

i dont understand when people complain about losing to someone who uses the same move over and over. if you cant figure out how to get around it then you kind of deserve to lose.
