Who hates the Capcom Vs. SNK series?

I'm posting this here, because if I post it in the CvsSNK thread, the only people who would read it are people who like this game.

Am I the only one who can't stand the CvsSNK series?

How can anybody that loves the Neo, that owns a Neo system (Home cart, MVS, Neo CD) and that loves SNK stand for the crappy treatment of SNK characters in this series?

The graphics in these games ARE NOT THAT GOOD.

The 3D backgrounds in these games ARE NOT AS GOOD AS SNK 2D BACKGROUNDS.

WTF is up with a CvsSNK forum here?!?!

My theory is that MOST of the people who love this game are kids that can't afford a real Neo.

I mean, how COULD you think this game is all that after you play MOTW? The SamSho series? The Last Blade series? The KOF series?

Flame if you will, but I can't keep silent on this any longer.

I have a Neo and I dig CvS. Its not perfect, and has many flaws, but it is the ultimate dreammatch. The meeting of SNK vs Capcom! I love the graphics btw, its just a different style.

Now, CvS2 looks to fix MANY of the problems people had with the first, so maybe that one will make you happier with the series. I for one am very happy that Capcom and SNK got together this title.

The game is pretty sweet except for how slow some of the characters are. For some reason Ryo is really slow and his zanratsu ken(sp?) is pain to pull off.

don't get off on paying 300-700$ for one fucking game. especially, when there are others available (and SUPERIOR) for about 30-40$. if i was wrong, SNK wouldn't be always in such financial turmoil. in short, i think your comment makes you sound like an asshole.

the game could be good but i think they pic a lot of crappy people to put on the game.on the snk side a lot of better charters could have been put on the game. also the snk vs capcom should have been called king of fighters vs street fighter.the only charters that wernt from those two games was ss chick and dark starkers chick

And as for there being "SUPERIOR" games for $30-$40? That statement alone dis-fucking-qualifies you from this discussion. HA!

The whole reason the Neo is so popular these days is because you CAN'T get better anywhere else. That is why there are so many people here that spend the $$$ to buy Neo games, because in many cases there in NO real substitute. And besides, if $$$ is anyone's concern, just buy an MVS and play the games cheap.

Hmm...I love my neo, have three home cart systems and love SNK. However, I still enjoy Capcom VS SNK. How is it possible?

I guess it's because I also love Capcom, am familiar with their product and don't think their fighting games are all that bad. So for SNK characters to be 'Capcom-ized' doesn't seem like such a hideous crime to me. I'm just happy that I can combo a triple geyser on Ryu's boring ass.

This is largely a matter of taste. The redrawn characters all look great, even Ryu and Ken, if you ask me. The sprite rips from the Alpha series are a bit of a dissappointment because they don't have the same 'look' as the Shotos and the SNK characters, but I still like Alpha style graphics just fine. I just wish they would have gone with a uniform look rather than being lazy about it:P.

Capcom VS SNK has fantastic 2D backgrounds, but not a single solitary 3D background. If you're talking about the 3D backgrounds for Capcom VS SNK 2, I haven't seen enough of them to make a judgement yet. If they're fairly vibrant, have lots of 'fan service' type things in them (like other characters, familiar buildings and logos, etc.) and don't hurt the gameplay by being too bright or have wacked out colors that make my eyes go buggy, I don't care. However, if they're along the lines of the drab, dull, plain, boring, LAME Marvel VS Capcom 2 backgrounds, I'll be disappointed. This doesn't affect the gameplay but all the same I appreciate the attention SNK has paid to the backgrounds over the years. Capcom has been pretty good for the most part as well in this respect. For Marvel VS Capcom 2, however, they didn't seem to care much.

And for the record, I HATE HATE HATE the VS series. Except for Capcom VS SNK, of course <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">!

While a neo purist's attitude might reflect this type of thought, the simple fact is that there are SNK characters in the aptly named Capcom VS SNK. That is a topic of interest to a number of SNK and neo geo fans and as such probably has a place here. My suggestion to you is that if you don't like it, don't go in there. But to complain about something, when you have every freedom to simply turn away it and focus on what matters to you, is a waste of your energy.

So there's a CVS forum. So what? Are you forced to watch tv shows you don't enjoy? Are you forced to read articles in a newspaper that you don't care about? No. CVS is along those same lines. While its connection to the neo geo is borderline at best (characters in neo geo games appear in it), it is related and I think has a place here, especially considering how momentous the existence of the game is to many of us oldschoolers that have begged for this game for a long time.

I'd agree with you...except for the fact that most of the people I play these games with, like me, were around and cognizant for the fighting game explosion that began with SFII. A lot of us enjoy the simple oldschool play of CVS, and we acknowledge that in today's fighting game scene its play seems a bit long in the tooth. So, while my friends may not own neo geos (they're smart; they let me buy all the games), they're not kids either. That, obviously, may not represent the majority of players, but I can't see a lot of kids getting into a game that would seem, to them, boring next to the MVC flashing screen seizure spazzfests that are so popular nowadays.

I don't think CVS is as good as any of the games you've just mentioned. However, just because product C isn't as good as products A or B doesn't mean product C isn't ANY good. Product C can be good enough to enjoy too.

So I guess that would make it product CVS <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">.

There might not be many 2d fighters that are superior to the ones on the neo but there are plenty of games that you can buy for $30-$40 and even cheaper than that that are considered by many to be superior to the Neo games.
Oh and I love the all the CvsSNK games.

CVS is a good game, one of the best things about it is that it allows someone who only plays Capcom games and someone who only plays SNK games to actually get to play against each over, without a huge disadvantage to one of the players.

IMO, ten "Inferiour" $30-40 games are still better than one $300 "Superiour" game. Price does matter, especially with the fact that not everyone is a hardcore gamer.

I like Capcom vs SNK. I like it for the concept of Capcom characters facing off SNK character, I like the music int he game, the redone character graphics (Of the characters who were redone, I'm not amused by the alpha sprites) and the eat effects of the fireballs.

However, the gameplay is so flawed that Mugen could produce a better quality fighter.

This topic is based more on opinion rather than factual statements. If you don't like CVS because of X reason, then so be it. I might not like any Neo Geo game because of X reason as well. It's a matter of preference.

I like both SNK and Capcom's fighters. Although Capcom vs SNK didn't live up to what I expected, I'm hoping the sequel will be much better.

I'm with you man, I think the series was a dissapointment, it was greatley hyped, god knows I waited a LONG time for that game. In the end though I'd rather play the VS. games than Capcom VS. SNK.

The game just didn't have a good feel to it, the art was a big let down, as were the graphics, Capcom VS. SNK 2 has sparked my intrest again, since Haohmaru is in it. But we'll have to see, as far as the 1st one goes tho, I do own it, and hardley ever play it, it's just no fun.

The only thing I hate about the series is that there were never any World Heroes. I mean, WH is OWNED by SNK, so Capcom has the green light.
Sure, the franchise ended in 1995, but still, WH 2 was one of the most popular fighting games of its time. And a series that successfully pumps out 4 games in 4 years... deserves some character spotlight at the least.

EVERY avid arcade gamer from the early-mid 90s remembers at least, Captain Kidd and Kim Dragon...

I may not like CvsSNK, but I've gotta agree with you on this one, Steve.

I wonder, does SNK own the rights to the World Heroes characters still? Talk about a series that needs an update!

Okay, I love this game, and that's why I'm glad the CvsSNK section exists. I think that the SNK guys were toned down a bit, but I still love the game very much. The characters, music, and control are pretty damn good IMHO.

And CvsSNK2 should bring back the lost moves for the SNK guys, so now there's nothing to complain about. The game kicks ass, no matter how much you have to pay for it!!

I own a Neo Cart System and still play CvS. And sure, it has its problems... The graphics aren't anything amazing, but the DC isn't a 2D-dedicated system like the Neo is, so that's part of the reason. In any case, and yes this is unfortunate, the CvS is the newest chance SNK fans have to see their characters represented, at least until KoF 2001 is released.

Well I guess I'm one of the minority here,ever since I really got down to playing CvS did I hate it more and more by each minute I was playing it.I didn't mind the original music and the colour edit features for the DC version but other than that and the graphics I hate the damn thing
