I guess I must have been hanging out here too long, 'cause ever since I've bought SVC I've been playing the SNK characters almost exclusively.

The strange thing is that my wife has been only using the SNK characters as well, and she's not even a gamer.

How about you guys?

Don't care for sides, just care for favorites.

My top 5 SvC character picks (in most used order):

1) Genjuro
2) Ken
3) Chun-Li (fuck the cheese, she's a blast to use -- watch out for those linking corner supers!)
4) Shiki
5) Choi (just started to mess around with him, his Exceed would be great if you could control it...)

I'm fond of SNK characters, myself. I usually pick them in any of the VS games, and I tend to like SNK games more as it is.. but I'm like 10 times better at Capcom games for some reason..

...yeah, all my fav's are SNK though!

1) Mr. Karate - f+B elbow smash is cool, plus I love his design
2) Ryo - a better Ryu than Ryu
3) Kim - been practicing alot of FFS, nice to see the moves translate
4) Genjuro - Ino! Shika! Chou!
5) Gouki / Akuma - the only exception, love the character design

The wife...
1) Mai - the first character she's ever mastered
2) M.Bison / Balrog - no idea why, she's good with him tho
3) Tabasa - again, no idea, I kick her ass so badly when she uses Tabasa I should be arrested for domestic violence
4) Dhalsim - long reach
5) Balrog / Vega - again, she just likes him, no reason

OK, now that I think about it, iku tends to prefer the Capcom side, which is odd, cause she's never really played much Street Fighter.

Neither of us have yet to use any of the secret characters, or Kasumi. The wife doesn't know the codes, and I'm more interested in mastering the basic characters first, and neither of us like Kasumi.

If you want to work on your basics then you should try using Terry more.

He's brutal in SvC...

Versatile, quick, fast recovery, easy to use/learn chains and one of the most abusable and devasting supers in the game.

He makes for a tough challenge against someone who knows what he's doing.

Same goes for Chun-Li and Violent Ken.

They're painfully obvious top-tiers.

Thanks for the tip... one of the other Tokyo members (RBJakeSpecial) is a Terry user, so I'll have to watch out...

The fact that Chun-Li is an ass kicker became apparent from the Combo DVD... and I think in another thread JHendrix mentioned that you can link her Super and her Exceed together in a corner.

Right now I'm happy to be using Mr. Karate 'cause he's got the very first combo I've ever discovered for myself (charge b, f + D, qf x 2 + D).

What are some good Violent Ken tactics?

Chun-Li can link a lot of stuff off of her QCFx2+K Super in the corner...

You can follow-up with her Exceed, her other super, DP + K, HCF + P, a crouching D...whole bunch of stuff actually.

And for Violent Ken?

Just work on chaining his QCBx2+K super and his QCFx2+K super...it's really easy to do and takes off half a life bar.

Another post I'm going to print out.

If the wife and I get into any martial disputes, it'll be from this advice!

I'm waiting for the MVS release, so I've only sunk about $10 into this game so far -- hard to wait -- and I like Capcom games well enough, but so far I've only used SNK characters. I've also found that without fail, on an SNK fighter I'll play as Terry first, and on a Capcom fighter I'll play as Chun Li first. Dunno why.

I always play Ryu first for a Capcom game... for an SNK game, it depends, but usually Ryo.

For tournament play I use SNK (Ryo and Eartquake) but for basic play with the boys I'll use SNK and Capcom.

If you want to try something fun, pick Chun-Li and try these:

jump D, low B, low B, df + B (a sweeping low kick), QCFx2+K and then finish it off with HCF+A (if you're in the open) or one of the others that I mentioned if you're in the corner.

^

Very cool stuff.

Max mode:

close C, HCF+A (cancel that with the help of Max Mode), QCFx2+K
"insert finisher"

I like the SNK characters more, still, some of the Capcom characters are good as well, examples are Violent Ken and Chun-Li.

I tend to use Genjyuro mostly followed by Ken if i in a capcom mood. The others i use from time to time are Mai, Ryu, Kim. If i had to take sides it would be with Snk.

SNK

The main character I use is Mai. In fact, she's the only character I intend on using for now. She's so challenging to play with this game, especially since my style is mostly aerial-based, and those bloody uppercuts have been given strong priority.

Heh mine's the opposite ;)

Your wife plays with you? OMG that rocks^^

My characters(in order):
1) Tabasa
2) Shiki
3) Kasumi
4) Genjyuro
5) Zero

I'm also a very Anti-Karate person... I'd probably be the first to challenge any karate user challengers I spot :D lol

I tend to use the SNK characters in the game since I'm more comfortable playing with them than the Capcom characters. I can't really get use to the SNKified versions of the Capcom characters.

I usually use these guys:
Mr. Karate (he OWNZ j00 fo free, f00!)
Kim Kaphwan
Kasumi
Kyo Kusanagi

If I want to play around or not play competitively, I'll play as either Genjuro or Dan Hibiki.

Slamming someone with the now considerably faster Blaster Wolf is a....well, a blast.

Top characters:

1) Terry
2) Ryu/Ken
3) Ryo
4) Akuma
5) Balrog (trying to get good with him)

I personally think it lacks the coolness effect that was found in MOTW.

It had such a nice slow and powerful look -- and he actually had time to say 'Buster Wolf' and not force it out like he's in a rush.

But in terms of usefulness? Yeah, the SvC is just pure ownage.

Fast as hell, full screen range and easy to combo.

Yeah, unlike most men, I don't beg and plead for sex, I beg and plead to get her to play video games.

She gradually started liking them, and we now play without much of the begging and pleading.

It's also convenient, 'cause she can translate the win quotes I don't understand.

let me get this straight, you have a (I presume) Japanese wife, who plays videogames (although reluctantly). Not just any videogames (such as those annoying "girfriend" puzzle games that infest arcades, taking up precious MVS slots) but actual honest-to-god fighting games, and plays as Mai to boot?!

Dude! Can I like, make a shrine in your honor?:buttrock:

I think you were using one or more of those SNK characters when you were owning everyone up at the Fun & Games Arcade...: )
