Octo for fighters. Good for quarter circles needed in SF and for back dashing and wave dashing in Tekken. Square for the rest of the games.

I actually like iL sticks as well, for the same reason as the octo. I've tried korean sticks and they're basically fancier iL/Happs. My k stick also broke a few months after I bought it, so fuck that anyway.

It really depends on what I'm playing. Overall I think a square gate is more versatile, however when playing Street Fighters I love the feel of a octo.

Round gates for me because I love using grapplers, even though I am no good with them.

I just built a Hitbox style "stick" out of some spare parts. Other than giving me carpal tunnel, it works really well. Standing 360s and tiger knee motions are easy as pie.

But it's really not fun. So I don't think I'm going to use it.

I saw a guy play some Cammy (SSF4) with a hit box. He made here look really really good. (Not to say that she looks bad to begin with.) But, he was just a banging on the box and busting moves out with ease. Racked up a bit of a win streak. He said it's also great for MARVEL. But there's a bit of an adjustment period needed. Other than that, it's very precise.

Square Gate for EVERYTHING, except turn it to 4-Way Only for Ghouls'n Ghosts/Ghosts'n Goblins.

Have you upgraded to Japanese sticks now Tx? :mr_t:

Yeah, I got some TE sticks the other day with Sanwa Squares gates.

But, I'm so use to American sticks for fighters these things make me look bad. :eek_2: / :lolz: / :emb: /

Americans seem to have a smooth circle feel to them, which I love; however, other games just seem to be made with sanwa in mind, like the ALPHAs.

Stick with it man, once you get used to it I don't think you'll go back to US sticks. Coming from US sticks though, I think Seimitsu would be a little more familiar. The LS-58 is a great choice it has a smaller dead zone and shorter engage. I have an extra if you want to borrow it for a spin.

Short answer: It depends.

Long answer: octaconal for Capcom fighters and such. Square for most others (particularly shmups and Neo games.)

Yeah marvel has a lot of D to U and L to R traversal and cancels, which make it just a simple two button sequence. For those that don't know, a Hitbox has four 24mm buttons as the cardinal directions, with the UP direction mapped to where your left thumb would be. Basically the space bar.

It's absolutely unfair in Tekken, where the speed of canceling leads to faster movement. I could see people on hit boxes doing some inhuman things.

Hitboxes are like cheating so I'm intrigued, but I'm too old to learn new things.

Mostly octagonal here..but it really depends on the game. I like circular as well...these are smooth with sanwa silent joysticks.

For standing 360s I just do the back, forward, down, up...

registers on most games as a 360.

Am I alone in thinking they ARE cheating? Games aren't designed to be able to hold certain directions at the same time. Here are two examples:

(While holding left+right you get a crazy speed boost)

I personally say ban all that bullshit. Aren't human errors (or sheer mastery) what make things exciting? No macros, no turbo, none of this garbage. I even hate PPP KKK macros.

Anyway, Square gate for all.

I use all of them, and also a 2-way.

- Square for fighters
- Octagonal for Shmups
- Round for Dual stick shooters (Robotron, Smash TV)
- 2-way for the classics like Galaga, Joust and Bubble/Puzzle Bobble (I know, I could probably use a square rotated for 4-way restriction, but something about having Up and Down locked off feels better)
