Trying to figure out which buttons and which joysticks I should put in my Aero City.

What do you guys recommend? It's not just for a single type of game, btw. Something well rounded. I'm not sure if I should just stick some new Happ stuff in there or what I want to do.

I know, I know. But its gonna be out in the field. I don't know if I should go through the expense of putting better shit on it if people are just gonna shit it up anyway.

Seimitsu or sanwa or a combo of these 2 brands. Joysticks from sanwa and seimitsu buttons or vice versa.
All other brands are fail!

Yeah, I say do whatever you want as long as it's either Seimitsu or Sanwa. :D

What stick you use might be determined by what type of mounts are on your control panel. Got any pics?

I'd go with Blue or White Sanwa screw in buttons (if they fit on Aero panels). Seimitsu would be fine, maybe even a little more durable.

Ill get a pic up a bit later when I can grab it, but there is no stick on it. When me and a friend were gutting it, we threw away the grimy crap that was on it. It was a Happ stick, but I dont think we saved anything. I know you are the man about this stuff, so I hope you can help ;) Its not a stock Aero cp, it came from a Nickel Nickel arcade, so its basically just a big blank panel with a giant hole in the middle, and 3 on each side.

Ahh, I think I know the type you are talking about. Pretty Sure DonmontG has one, so you might want to get his advice. My guess is that you'll be drilling holes to mount whatever plate you want in the CP anyway.

Since I can't find a suitable CP upper, I was thinking of either buying a RS panel and cutting a space for it to mount, or filling it in with lab metal and just redrilling it.

Even if you get the top of the line Sanwa RGs you are still talking pretty short money. Plus these parts are meant to be played thousands of times. They aren't going to get messed anytime soon.

As others have said, go Sanwa or Seimitsu. Both are quality parts...it's the feel that's the preference. Seimitsu stuff tends to be stiffer and "clickier" IMO.

Why do you recommend screws over snaps?

I'm not sure if this is the reasoning...but you'll be able to pretty much use them in ANY panel in the future. Also, I've snapped quite a few of the clips on the sides of snap ons...which could make them loose and able to be popped out in an arcade setting.

True, at the moment i have snaps in my aero city but also had screws.
I prefer the screws for reasons already mentioned.
Both, snaps and screws will fit on an aer panel.

Go with IL Euros Competition stick/buttons! Its cheaper & you wont have to worry about people stealing the balltop from the joystick.

I would go either sanwa jlf or seimitsu ls32 if you plan to play a wide range of games. If its mainly going to be fighters my personal favs are seimitsu ls40 or the ls56. As for buttons id go screw type, just because they are versatile. If you like to rest your fingers on your buttons while playing without accidental inputs id go seimitsu over sanwa. ps14gn(c) or the ps14kn.

Also they make black plastic shaft covers (OMGLOL) for JLF's and LS32's to aid in people not stealing balls. (OMGLOL)

I dont believe there is a commercial line of ls32 shaft covers, you have to custom fit a jlf cover to fit. But the rest of the LS series comes with a cover stock. Its funny, i never think of the aspect of ppl stealing the balls, i just prefer them for the look plus they keep the shaft from corroding. or throw one on a joystick with a rusty shaft lol.

I swear by Seimitsu sticks and Sanwa buttons, but the latter will not be to everyone's preference because the buttons require almost no pressure to make contact.

Sanwa JLF with a 2LB spring, over-sized actuator, and octagonal restrictor. Seimitsu buttons with foam silencers. Baller all day long.

If this was a personal cabinet, I'd go with some Japanese sticks. But, since it's not, I would go with an iL stick. People in the US are just used to the feel of it, and you won't have to change any mounting orientation.

If that's the case I'd go sanwa jlw, I hear its a direct replacement. Infact focusattack started carrying them for neogeo cab owners specifically since demand was high.

On another note, I'm still getting my board and all that together before I work on a cab. If I end getting a big red is there a template to a Japanese universal mounting bracket I can make and weld in there? Or just drill and fit whatever stick I want and throw a plexi over the cp?

While on the subject on sticks and buttons, what is preferred for US sticks and buttons in something like a big red? I would tend to lean towards all IL sticks and concave buttons with cherry/zippy micro-switches. A lot of reviewers seem to be going that route because the HAPP stuff has gone down in quality.

Yeah, iL's are basically the Happs they used to put in cabinets, before Happ moved their shit to china.

Just to post an update, I just decided to do both. I bought some Happ convex competition buttons and IL sticks for when I put it out, and a set of sanwa jlfs and snaps for me, myself and I!

Thanks for the input guys. I am looking forward to receiving my big box of fun :D
